Amy Katherine Aschenbrenner, 61, of the Hygiene, Colorado area, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2026, in Boulder, Colorado. Born in Denver and raised outside of Arvada, Colorado in Blue Mountain Estates off of Highway 72, Amy made the Hygiene area her home for over 40 years, where she built a life filled with purpose, service, and love.
Amy was the beloved wife of Scott William Aschenbrenner, her devoted partner, from their marriage in May 2000 and prior. Together, they created a loving blended family and shared countless adventures, including Scott's weekend projects bringing Amy's garden and home visions to life.
A distinguished leader in Colorado's real estate community for over 25 years, Amy served as CEO of the Longmont Association of Realtors and was instrumental in the merger of the Longmont Association of Realtors and the Boulder Area Realtor Association, an accomplishment most thought would never happen. Amy served as Vice President of Governmental Affairs and Community Investment for BOLO Realtors for the 5 years following the merger. Her vision and leadership were instrumental in establishing the Realtor Summit, an incredibly successful collaboration between 5 Realtor Associations bringing a full day of education to the Realtor community of Northern Colorado.
Her professional achievements extended far beyond her career, as she dedicated herself to strengthening her community through extensive volunteer service. Amy proudly served on the Board of the Hygiene Volunteer Fire Department, the Longmont Chamber of Commerce, and as a Committee Member for the TLC Learning Center. She was an enthusiastic supporter of Our Center in Longmont and the Inn Between in Longmont, The Veteran’s Community Project and faithfully served as Secretary/Treasurer for the Palmerton Consolidated Ditch Company for 22 years.
Amy's greatest joy came from her family - spoiling the kids, grandchildren, and even neighbor kids - and tending to her beloved gardens and flower beds. She treasured camping and off-roading adventures with friends and family throughout Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, and South Dakota. She had a unique passion for selecting unmarked plants from local nurseries each spring, delighting in the surprise of watching them grow and transform into her carefully tended planting beds. Her gardening adventures became legendary family stories, as Amy would develop visions of her gardens and home improvements and Scott would lose weekends and she would just smile.
Amy is survived by her loving husband Scott; her son Cody and daughter in law Brittney Hartung of Kemmerer, Wyoming; daughter Samantha and son in law Wayne Tachera of Penrose, Colorado; and daughter Cheyeann and son in law Nick Williams of Phoenix, Arizona. She was the cherished grandmother of Easton Scott, Grayson Michael, and Beauden Frank Hartung of Kemmerer, Wyoming; Brooklynn Elizabeth Williams of Phoenix, Arizona; Kamehana Tachera of Arizona/Colorado; and Nahe Tachera of Hawaii. She also treasured the memory of her grandson Alex Rowdy Stringer of Wetmore, Colorado, who preceded her in death.
Amy is also survived by her siblings: Mary and Dale Rowzee of Arvada; Ann and Daryl Demarco of Arizona; Theresa and Harold Johnson of Arvada; Ray and Cynthia Velasquez of South Carolina; Elizabeth Brock of Ft. Collins; Joe Velasquez of Idaho; and Paul and Anggie Velasquez of South Carolina. Amy is also survived by her Aunt Renee Velasquez of Weldona as well as numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ramon Velasquez and Phyllis Jean Schade, and her siblings Greg Velasquez, Victoria Velasquez and David Sena.
In keeping with Amy's wishes, there will be no public memorial service. A celebration of life is planned for spring or early summer for family and friends, when her flowers are blooming and the grass is green—just as Amy would have wanted it.
Amy's legacy of service, love, and determination - always with a twinkle in her eyes - will continue to bloom in the hearts of all who knew her, much like the beautiful gardens she so lovingly tended.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society in her name.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
Cremation is entrusted to Howe Mortuary & Crematory of Longmont, Colorado.
