Andres "Andy" Medina Jr.

Andy was born on February 21, 1940, in Peñasco, New Mexico, to Andres Medina Sr. and Isabel Vasquez. He grew up in Peñasco and graduated from Peñasco High School in 1958. He went on to pursue higher education at the University of Colorado Boulder. On October 27, 1961, Andy married the love of his life, Sarah Ann Maez, with whom he built a life centered around faith, love, and family. Andy lived in Leadville for 30+ years, making a difference in social change initiatives, helping his neighbors, believing that if you work hard, enrich your mind, and have your faith and family, you will lead a good life. Following the mines' closure, Andy and his family made their home in the Longmont area in 1990, where he began serving the community on various projects.

A man of extraordinary work ethic and leadership, Andy served his community across many roles throughout his life. Professionally, he was the owner and operator of Andy’s Income & Bookkeeping Service for 68 years and Andy’s Bail Bonds for over a decade. He worked as a train operator & mine security for mining operations in Climax, Questa, Gillman, and Grants. Andy also dedicated years to public safety and law enforcement, working with the City of Leadville Police Department, the University of Colorado Boulder Police Department, and Boulder Valley School District Security.

Deeply committed to civic duty, Andy served as Chairman of the Longmont Housing Authority, where he helped secure and build several housing properties in the city. He served on the Board of Directors for the Public Accountants Society of Colorado, was an active 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, and served as Administrator, Treasurer, and Secretary for the Loyal Order of Moose.

Andy was a faithful parishioner of St. John’s Catholic Church in Longmont. Outside of his work and service, he enjoyed reading, gardening, birdwatching, bike riding, playing/ causing chaos with his dog, watching Westerns, and listening to and dancing to New Mexico Spanish music. Above all else, he cherished his role as a loving husband, a "Super Dad," and a devoted grandfather.

Andy is survived by his children, Tony(Roxann), Tina (Harvey), Maria, and Andrea; his grandchildren, Paul, Brandon (Chantel), Jason Lovato, Chris (Karissa) Lovato, and Marissa Lovato; and his great-grandchildren, Alana, Olivia, Monica, Braxton, and Baby Girl Lovato (expected in October). He is also survived by his siblings J.D., Michael (Adrienne), Robert (Sharon),Seraphine (Elefio), Mary Irene, Eva, Doris, Paul (Nancy), Juan (Sharon), Richard (Rosemary), Burdell, and Charlotte (Tony). And many extended family members, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sarah Ann Maez; parents, Andres Medina Sr. and Isabel Vasquez; his daughter, Monica; and his siblings Gilbert, Johnny, Benito, Orlando, Carmen, Melba, Jim, Lydia, Leo, Jake, Bernie, Joe, Tony, Pauline, and Crescencio.
