Angela Madge Brown Martin; wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother; died peacefully at home on December 20 surrounded by her children. She was born April 5, 1934 in Clovis, New Mexico to Martha Anne (Colligan) Brown and Charlie O. Brown. She was raised in Portales, NM, where she attended school and worked at the Portales News Tribune.
After her Freshman year at Eastern New Mexico University, she moved to Denver, Colorado for work and soon met Allan Martin, a serviceman in Lowry Air Force Base, at a dance. They fell in love and were married in 1953.
The newlyweds lived in Denver until Allan was transferred to Castle Air Force Base in Merced, California. While living there, Angela continued her education with classes offered at the Air Force Base and she and Allan celebrated the birth of their son Michael.
In 1957, Allan was honorably discharged from the service and he and Angela moved to Syracuse, New York. There Angela became an associate at a stock exchange company and welcomed two daughters, Laurie and Diana. She earned her Masters Degree in education at SUNY Courtland and started working at Bear Road Elementary School in North Syracuse. She made many dear and lifelong friends at Bear Road. At home, Angela tutored children and was considered the neighborhood mom. Angela and Allan were generous with donations and volunteering for various causes that were important to them. They were quick to offer support to people in need of help.
Angela and Allan traveled across the US, to Europe, South America and the Caribbean. They enjoyed taking cruises with friends.
She and Allan retired to Myrtle Beach & Conway, South Carolina, where they made many wonderful and cherished friends. In 2020, they moved to Longmont, Colorado to be near their children.
Angela made friends easily, welcoming people into her life with an open heart and a clever sense of humor. No one was a stranger after meeting Angela once.
Angela was preceded in death by her parents Martha and Charlie Brown, her husband Allan, brothers Terry and Sam, and sister Rose.
Survivors include her dear sisters Jeanne (Lyle) Weems and Kathy (Donnie) Weems; children Michael (Bethany) Martin, Laurie (Tim) Martin-Carr and Diana (Story) Leavesley; grandchildren Tatiana (Marc) Gossel, Taylor (Elizabeth) Martin, Kimberly (Mitch Johnson) Martin, and Brooke Lynne Martin-Gifford. Great grandchildren Marius, Montae and Mavarro. And many beloved nieces and nephews.
The prayer group at Alta Vita Assisted Living have offered masses for Angela during the St Francis of Assisi communion services.
Following Angela’s wishes, her children will scatter her ashes in the mountains above Boulder CO to join her husband Allan.
