Arlene Anderson Collis was born on the northern Minnesota iron range in Crosby-Ironton August 28, 1924, raised on the banks of the Mississippi in Little Falls, Minnesota, and having raised her family in the Red River valley in Moorhead, Minnesota, Arlene died of natural causes, surrounded by her family, February 20, 2017 close to the Rocky Mountains of her adopted state of Colorado. Arlene was a woman of her times, devoted to family, church, and community; she was loving, always industrious for the benefit of others, and had a sure and unquenchable belief and faith in her resurrection. She was never an impetuous woman, except for a short while in 1944. Arlene, working as an administrative assistant for the Provost Marshal at the POW camp in Greeley, was induced to go on a blind double-date. Sometime during the evening she caught the attention of the young First Lieutenant from Forest Park, IL who was with the other young lady in the party. Thirteen days later, on April 28, 1944, the young Lieutenant, Augie Collis, borrowed $50 from his future brother-in-law, and together with Arlene, drove up to Ft. Warren in Cheyenne to bemarried by the post chaplain. A favorite family story. Her impetuosity led to a 35 year marriage, two children who called her mom, sevengranddaughters who called her grams, and twelve great grandchildren who called herya-ya.Arlene was preceded in death by her husband August (Augie) Collis, her parents Richand Lucy Anderson, her sisters Carol Shimmon and Ione Wallin, and her brother DickAnderson.
