Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Aurelia Aberasturi met Richard Melanson shortly after graduating from high school. They married and shared a lifetime together, living in several states throughout the country while raising their family and eventually settled in Colorado.
After making Colorado her home, Rita dedicated her career to serving students and families within the St. Vrain Valley School District.
Rita was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by four of her five children, four grandchildren, and one great-grandson.
Rita will be remembered for her kindness, dedication to her family, joke telling, her love for Bingo, and the lasting impact she made on those fortunate enough to know her.
Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate any memorial donations to be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
