Aurthur Moses Gallegos, known to all as Danny, was a proud combat veteran and a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, cousin, and friend. His family remained at the center of his life.
Danny loved motorcycles, country western music, fly-fishing, hunting, and his mountain home. His faithful dog, Max, was his constant companion. Danny worked as a firefighter, musician, salesman, and truck driver, and was a passionate biker.
From 1967 to 1970, Danny served three tours in Vietnam, earning three Purple Hearts, two Bronze Stars, and other military honors. He liked to tell the story of receiving a draft notice addressed to "Aurthur". When he asked his mother, "Who is that?" she replied "That's you, mijo.".
Music was one of Danny's lifelong passions. As a drummer with From the Heart Music Company, Danny performed at Cheyenne Frontier Days and opened for major country western artists. Danny was especially close to George Strait and Charlie Daniels, and those friendships and musical memories held a special place in his heart.
In 2015, Danny found peace after moving to Black Hawk with Crickett. Nature, motorcycle rides through the mountains, trips to the opera, and time with old and new friends brought tranquility to his life. In his own words, his life there was "perfect".
Danny was a Renaissance man in every sense. He dressed in biker leathers, Renaissance Faire garb, military clothing, and costumes for holidays and special occasions. He embraced life with humor, authenticity, and joy.
Danny loved sharing stories about his parents, siblings, cousins, and especially his children. He was especially close to his mother, Mary, and often laughed as he remembered her "singing" with the family's dog, Tater, and always being ready to go for a ride anywhere, as soon as she could get her purse.
Danny spoke with great pride about his children's personal and academic accomplishments. He kept their lives and concerns close in his thoughts and prayers, and he treasured every phone call, visit, and moment they shared.
Danny's influence reaches far beyond his family -- to friends, fellow veterans, the Renaissance community, and everyone fortunate enough to share in his stories and laughter.
Danny passed away peacefully in the mountain home he loved, with his beloved dog, Max, by his side. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.
