February 26, 1938 – September 7, 2018
Baldomero Melendez February 26th 1938 – September 7th, 2018 Baldomero Melendez, 80, crossed into heaven peacefully on September 7th, 2018 at his farm in Mead, Colorado while surrounded by his beloved wife and family. Baldomero was born in Morillos, Durango Mexico to Abraham Melendez and Ramona Nevarez and was the second to the youngest of 11 children. On July 12th 1964, he married the love of his life, Bartola Melendez. They had the privilege of loving each other profoundly for 54 years. Their love brought them 5 daughters, 14 grandchildren and one great granddaughter. As a teenager, Baldomero entered the United States to work through the Bracero Program in Del City, Texas where he proudly served for 4 years in exchange for his permanent residency. Baldomero and Bartola then moved to Colorado and established their home in Longmont, where he worked at Longmont Foods for over 35 years. Once he became a citizen of this country, he voted in every election possible and even joined in on several political rallies with his daughters and grandchildren. Baldomero was a man of integrity. He was well respected by many because of the love and unconditional wisdom he would give to anyone who was willing to listen to his humble stories. He lived in Longmont for 34 years, then moved to his farm in Platteville (Mead) in 1998 where he quickly made many friends. He would drive his truck around the community visiting with neighbors and often taking tamales or fresh eggs from his chickens to share. His farm was his peaceful place where family gatherings happened frequently and where the foundation of his family was built. Sunday Bronco football games, Thanksgiving and Easter celebrations, professional boxing matches on HBO, Quinceaneras, weddings and destination family trips to Mexico and the Dominican Republic were something all generations would look forward to. Baldomero is survived by his wife, Bartola Melendez. His daughters Natalia Melendez Martinez (Jose G. Martinez), Maguerita Melendez Barron (Hugo Barron), Olga Melendez Cordero (Victor Corero), Leticia Melendez Aldana (Ismael Aldana), and Irma Melendez Madera (Alejandro Madera). He is also survived by his 14 grandchildren and his great granddaughter (Esmeralda Barron). Baldomero was preceded in death by his parents, Abraham Melendez and Ramona Nevarez and his siblings; Zenida Melendez Quinonez, Elena Melendez Pena, Maria Melendez Nevarez, Ignacia Melendez Miranda, Lalo Melendez, and Adela Melendez Bueno. His physical presence on earth will be deeply felt. Our hearts are painfully lonely because we will not be able adore his hand as a sign of respect and receive the “bendicion” (blessings) or to dance with him as his favorite song (Paloma Errante) comes on at a family function. We believe fully that our Lord will give us the strength to carry on and feel his love in the many ways he will continue to bless us.
