On July 20, 2024, Barbara (Bobbi) Jean Watson went peacefully from her home in Berthoud to Heaven where we’re sure she’s dancing to her favorite rock-n-roll songs and chatting with her best friend Alice James while watching over her husband Tom, her family and friends who are all missing her dearly.
Bobbi was born on March 20, 1939 in Rock Springs, WY to Margaret and John Bundy. She grew up, attended elementary school and graduated high school in Green River, WY.
The best words to describe Bobbi are bold and courageous. Having lost her mother at the age of 15 and growing up most of her childhood without her father, Bobbi never let adversity stand in her way. Bobbi exhibited the courage to forge on with her life and left Wyoming for Colorado after graduating from Lincoln High School in 1957. Bobbi never considered herself to be a victim of circumstances and didn’t allow anyone around her to be one either.
Bobbi began her career working for the phone company after moving to Denver with her husband Paul Apostolope. Being the determined, self-starter she was, she moved on and ran her own businesses throughout her life. Though the marriage didn’t last, Bobbi remained great lifelong friends with Paul. In Longmont in the 1970s, she ran Paul Watson Plumbing Company with her second husband, Paul Watson (deceased) and yes, she married two guys named Paul. In 1983 she started Central Mechanical, which is still a successful mechanical contracting company in operation today. Bobbi was a smart, level-headed businesswoman who ventured into the construction industry at a time when women weren’t considered to be more than secretaries. Bobbi never knew how to type and claimed she didn’t know math but could read a profit and loss statement better than most. To this day, she is well-regarded in the industry she was a part of.
In 1989 she married her partner and soulmate, Tom Foster. Together they traveled, spent time between homes in Colorado and Arizona and enjoyed their many years together. Fun fact: Tom and Bobbi flew on the famous Concord jet airplane to London, England – one of the last flights the Concord ever made.
A lifelong reader, Bobbi enjoyed reading many true crime novels, in her later years she kept her TV on the ID channel 24/7. If she missed any calling in life it would’ve been to be a professional restaurant critic. Ask any waitperson at the restaurants she frequented, we’re sure they would begrudgingly agree.
More than anything, Bobbi was a true and loyal friend. If you came to a point in your life where you didn’t know which way to go, you would call Bobbi. Her no-nonsense words provided the strength you needed at the time you needed it most. She didn’t offer sympathy as much as she offered the advice to stop whining, pick yourself up and get on with life. She certainly practiced what she preached. For those she left behind, we would do well to remember her advice now.
Bobbi is survived by her husband, Tom, her children, Darrel, Allen (DJ) and Natalie (Jerry), her step-children Seena (Kuzma) and Tommy (Colleen), her brother Allen, half-sister Patti, cousin Jackie, many cousins in Wyoming and California, her many grandchildren and many, many great-grandchildren.
Bobbi would want each of us to go do something that brings happiness and remember her when you do. Go to Dillard’s and buy a blouse with her in mind, go to Blackhawk and drop some quarters in a slot machine or drive around looking at houses as those were some of her favorite pastimes. If you knew her, you know she was not one for long, sad goodbyes.
Services for Bobbi will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday August 27th, 2024 at Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church in Mead, CO with interment following at Foothills Gardens of Memory in Longmont.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made in her name to: Tunnels to Towers or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.howemortuary.com for the Watson-Foster family.
