

Bernard H. KarlinBorn: May 14, 1926 Died: July 20, 2010Bernard H. Karlin of Longmont, CO. passed away on Tuesday July 20, 2010 at the age of 84. He leaves his beloved wife of 35 years, Lynn, his children: Philip Karlin and wife Rhonda of West Hartford, CT; Rebecca Karlin Fox of West Hartford; Joshua Karlin of Bethesda, MD; Diane Karlin Oden and husband Ray of Arlington, VA; and Kevin Karlin and wife Apryl, of Highlands Ranch, CO. He also leaves 13 beloved grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren: Jonah, Daniel and Nina Karlin, Noah Fox, Gary, Delk, Michael and Elizabeth Oden, Durai, Leandra, Sienna, Grayson, and Brielle Karlin, Josiah Silva, Elisiana Silva and Lexxi Manriquez. He is also survivedby his sister, Phyllis Bershader of Delray Beach, FL , his nephew, Brian Bershader of PaloAlto, CA, his mother-in-law, Iris Niswonger of Longmont, CO and his brother-in-law, WendellNiswonger and wife Sandra of Arlington, TX.After serving in the Navy during WWII, Bernie attended the New England Conservatory in Bostonto study composition and ultimately earned a BM from the Hart College of Music at the Universityof Hartford. He became a professional musician and then an entrepreneur, opening Kiddie Fair inManchester CT, Cattle Investors Corp. in South Windsor, CT, and partnering with his older sonsin Ashley's Franchising, Inc.Bernie was an accomplished musician and was never happier than when he was playing thepiano or giving a music lesson. The last several years he continued to teach music at ColoradoMusic Instruction Center in Longmont. He was an avid tennis player and even after he had hipand shoulder replacements, could still be found on the court several days a week, including themorning of his passing. He was a founder of Temple Beth Hillel in South Windsor, where he arranged hymns and directed the choir, a passion which he continued after he moved West at Temple Har Hashem in Boulder, CO.He was born on his father's birthday, died on his eldest son's birthday, and loved his family everyday in between. The funeral will be held on Tuesday July 27 at 10:00 am at Howe Mortuary in Longmont.A traditional Jewish graveside service and interment will follow at Fort Logan National Cemetery,in Denver at 1:30.
