Bettie Charlene Shaffer

Bettie Charlene Shaffer, 79, passed away at her home near Berthoud on Wednesday, May 27, 2009.Bettie was born September 20, 1929, in Ringgold County, Iowa, to Cecil J. and Allie (Ruby) Busby. She graduated from Clearfield High School and married William Donovan ""Pete"" Shaffer on April 10, 1949. The couple made their home in southern Iowa until moving to Colorado in 1963. Mrs. Shaffer retired from Francis Street Pharmacy in Longmont. Bettie cherished spending time with her family and friends.Bettie is survived by her daughters, Karen Lyons and Linda Kutscher; son, Ronald Shaffer; five grandchildren, Bonnie Walter, Nicole Lyons, Brady and Patrick Kutscher and William Dustin (Dusty) Shaffer; and three great-grandchildren, Rylee and Payton Kutscher, and William Lyons-Irvine. She is further survived by her sister, Ruth Hudson and husband, Robert, of Des Moines, Iowa; and her beloved dog, Patches.She was preceded in death by her husband, Pete, on March 28, 2004; by her parents; her brothers, John and Ralph Busby; and two grandsons.Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Howe Mortuary and Cremation Services of Longmont. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 5, 2009 at Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman St., Longmont, CO 80501.Memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare of Boulder and Broomfield Counties, 2594 Trailridge Dr. East, Lafayette, CO 80026
