Born on December 9, 1942, in Newton, New Hampshire, Betty Lou was the daughter of the late John Fowler and Florence Edson. She spent much of her life in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, where she married Leslie "Bud" King and raised her family during their twenty-year marriage.
Betty Lou’s professional life was a testament to her work ethic and drive. She began her career as a hair stylist, a role she enjoyed for many years before making a courageous pivot. As a working mother, she put herself through secretarial school, eventually launching a highly successful career as an administrative assistant. Her talent and professionalism led her to Digital Equipment Corporation, where she served with distinction as the assistant to the President, Ken Olsen. She later went on to become a Project Manager, also at Digital Equipment Corporation, before retiring.
In 2012, Betty Lou moved to Colorado to be near her family. She was a woman who defined family broadly and loved deeply. Beyond her own kin, she embraced her ex-husband’s family and her son-in-law’s family as her own, creating a wide circle of love that spanned from the East Coast to the Rockies.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Cheryl “Sheri”; her beloved daughter, Lorelei; and her grandson, Rowan.
Betty Lou is survived by her daughter, Wendy VanKonynenburg, and her husband, Brian, of Longmont, CO; and her cherished grandchildren, Conor "Rango" VanKonynenburg and Sadie Claire "Kip" VanKonynenburg. She leaves her sisters, Joan Goddard, Pamela MacDonald, Allyn Nichols, and Kelly King, and a brother, Thomas Fowler.
