Brian retired from delivering milk and left school in Watchet at 15. He started his apprenticeship as a mechanical engineer. While working he also attended Taunton Technical College.
After finishing his apprenticeship, in 1969, he went to work for Hinkley Point Nuclear Power Station where he did maintenance on fuel systems. He worked there until he took early retirement and came to America to live.
Brian excelled at football (soccer to the Yanks who don’t know better), initially at school then for the Watchet Town Football Club. He started there in his early teens and quickly rose through the ranks and became a regular and much respected player for the club's senior team. He played until he was 38.
In 1997 he married Jane in Estes Park CO. He did business as a handyman, for clients and for his new, growing family in Colorado. He traded his passion for football to golf. He played whenever he could and sparked a keen interest in the sport to some of his grandchildren, especially Tyler.
Brian loved his “American family “dearly but was always glad go home often to visit everyone - his son Craig, his Mum Lily, his brothers, cousins and all the other family members and friends.
Brian Stevens is survived by his wife, Jane, stepsons Brent Crispin (Aimee), Jason Crispin (Molly) and his four grandchildren – Tyler, Kasey, Eva and Logan. His family in England – son Craig Stevens, brothers Keith Stevens (Mavis) Martin Stevens (Sheila) and many nieces and nephews. He had great relationships with his nieces and nephews and always loved seeing them and being the “slightly naughty” influence, but always supportive. Every kid needs an uncle like that!
A quote from his older brother Keith “As soon as he could hold a pint, he played some sport for every pub in Watchet”.
That slightly naughty, fun, smart, funny, kind, talented, generous, handsome man will be missed terribly by all of us who knew and loved him.
A celebration of life will be held later in the summer. We request that anyone who is interested in donating in Brian’s name should donate blood and platelets to the blood bank of your choice.
