Carol Eileen Ryan

Carol Eileen Ryan, M.D. passed away at her home in Longmont on May 28, 2009 with family at her side. Carol was born in Haverhill, Massachusetts on February 21, 1944 and was a longtime physician and Boulder resident, preferring to put down roots after a childhood lived in many locales (Massachusetts, Georgia, Texas, California, Panama, and southern Colorado).Carol attended the University of Colorado in Boulder, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 1965. She received her Medical Doctorate Degree from the University of Texas, Southwestern Medical School, Dallas, Texas in 1971. Dr. Ryan began her practice in pediatric medicine, working for the Denver Health and Hospitals Neighborhood Health Program. In 1980, she completed her psychiatry residency at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, joining the Wardenburg Student Health Center that same year. Dr. Ryan served for many years as Medical Director of the Wardenburg Psychiatry Clinic, before retiring in May 2009 because of her illness. She was also a member of the American Psychiatric Association.Carol enjoyed spending time with her family, was an avid reader, and also enjoyed time with her pets. She is survived by her loving husband of 25 years, Clive Jones; sons, Lieutenant Colonel Adam S. Marshall of Colorado Springs and Colin P.C. Jones of Longmont; sisters, Dr. Jean Ryan of Portsmouth, NH, Mary Annighofer of Ratekau, Germany, Dr. Susan Ryan of Louisville; brother, Dr. Charles Ryan of Anchorage, AK, and grandchildren, Sarah and McKenna.A memorial service will be held at a future date and time.
