
Carolyn Ann Higgins, 86, formerly of Denver passed away April 1, 2015 at Juniper Village Assisted Living in Aurora, CO.Carol was born September 2, 1928 in Hot Springs, South Dakota to Thomas E. and Edith (Dugan) Higgins. She was the fourth of ten children and the only one born in a hospital. She grew up on farms in the Nebraska panhandle near Harrison and Crawford graduating from Crawford High School in 1945. She went on to attend Chadron College for business school. In 1946 she moved West joining her older sister Helen in LA. Moving to Casper, WY in 1955 where the family had relocated, she began her career in the Oil Industry Land offices of Casper, Denver and Houston. Carol was blessed with a warm and pleasant personality who loved life. She loved to travel including safaris in Kenya, tours of Australia and numerous tours in the US with Elderhostel. She was an avid reader and photographer of events in her life. She took an active part of the family life of her siblings and many nieces and nephews attending their baptisms, birthdays, first communions, graduations and weddings. She was an active member of social and civic organizations including the Cathedral Club and the Petroleum Club, both in Denver. After retirement Carolyn was an active volunteer with senior citizens activities at the Washington Park Community Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, six siblings Jack Higgins, Helen Kennick, Thomas Gerald Higgins, Cecelia Godena, Donald Higgins and James Higgins, niece Roberta Williams and nephew Michael Higgins.Carolyn is survived by one sister Delores Schwieder of Denver and Dungarvan, Ireland, two brothers Thomas E. Higgins, Jr. (Denise) of Morrison, CO and Jerome Higgins (Pauline) of Longmont, 29 nieces and nephews, and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews.Memorial services will be held at 11:30am on Friday, May 22, 2015 in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church, Longmont, CO. At her request Carolyn has donated her body to the State of Colorado Anatomical Board. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association and sent in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
