Chuck was a Colorado native, born in Longmont on February 20, 1954. He was one of six children born to Charles H. and Marion Poellot and grew up surrounded by a large and loving family.
Chuck spent his childhood on the Rinn Valley farm in Longmont, Colorado, where he learned the meaning of hard work from an early age. Farm life in the late 1950s and early 1960s meant there was always something to be done. He helped care for the animals, including cows and chickens, collected eggs, and worked alongside his family baling and moving hay. Those early years on the farm taught Chuck the value of responsibility, perseverance, and taking pride in a job well done. The lessons he learned there stayed with him throughout his life and became the foundation for the strong work ethic he was known for.
If Chuck said he was going to do something, you could always count on him to follow through. For more than 45 years, he was the proud owner and operator of Quality Drywall in Longmont, building a life and career through his dedication, reliability, and attention to detail. If someone needed help, Chuck was the kind of person who could be counted on to lend a helping hand.
Chuck married Teresa “Terry” Poellot, (formerly Wilhelm and McCulloch), on August 20, 2011, in Longmont, Colorado. He was previously married to Lori Poellot, (formerly Kruse), on July 22, 1992, in Berthoud, Colorado. Although their marriage later ended in divorce, Chuck and Lori remained good friends. Lori preceded him in death in 2023.
Chuck’s faith became an important part of his life, especially after he joined AA in the late 1980s. Through his journey of recovery, Chuck found a deeper connection with God and discovered a strength and purpose that remained with him throughout the rest of his life. He proudly maintained more than 36 years of sobriety, a remarkable accomplishment that reflected his determination, faith, and commitment to living a better life. His faith and sobriety became an important part of who he was, and he carried those lessons with him in the way he lived and encouraged those around him.
Chuck was rarely content to sit still. He loved being busy with projects and could often be found working on something around the house or yard. He always had a story to tell, whether it was about one of his many life experiences, something that happened at work, or a memory he wanted to share. His stories often brought a good laugh, a valuable life lesson, or both. He especially enjoyed sharing those lessons with his stepson, Michael, teaching him what it meant to be a good man.
Chuck had a lifelong fascination with trains, and somehow, no matter what the conversation was about, a story about Big Boy 4014, the 844, or another steam locomotive always seemed to find its way into the conversation. He loved watching and pacing the locomotives and never seemed to tire of sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm with others. He also had a passion for cars and car shows, as well as WWII era planes and battleships.
Chuck loved music and was known to say, “No music, no worky.” He also enjoyed playing the “Who Is It?” game and was very hard to beat. His sense of humor, stories, and unique way of looking at life brought laughter and memorable moments to those around him.
Chuck and Terry also shared a love of the outdoors. For the past 14 years, they made it a tradition to spend time camping at Carter Lake around their wedding anniversary. They looked forward to these trips each year, enjoying good food, the beauty of the outdoors, and, most importantly, each other’s company. These annual getaways became a special part of their life together and created many cherished memories.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Charles H. and Marion Poellot; his sister, Kathleen Scraggs; and his brother, Richard Poellot.
Chuck is survived by his loving wife, Terry Poellot; stepson, Michael J. Wilhelm; brothers, Robert Poellot and Raymond Poellot; and sister, Linda Leo.
