Christine Rosemary Deegan

Chris Deegan, 72, passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, August 22, 2026, after a very courageous battle with cancer. Chris was born on November 2, 1953, in Elmira, NY, to Samuel and Phyllis Bailey. Chris grew up in Elmira and graduated from Southside High School in June 1971. Chris married high school classmate Bill Deegan on June 23, 1973. Together, they moved to Boulder, CO in 1973, and that same year they welcomed their first son, Paul, followed by Craig two years later, and then their daughter, Jaci, five years after that.

Chris loved her family with her whole heart, and they were the center of her life; she was the heart and soul of her family! Chris enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, cooking and baking, photography, volunteering at her church, and crocheting. In recent years, after retirement, she enjoyed hand-sewing dolls for her grandchildren and crocheting adorable little animals. Chris was an outstanding wife, mother, and grandma. Her family could not ask for a more loving, caring, and compassionate family matriarch. She always put her family first. Chris was always present at her children's and grandchildren’s games, dance recitals, concerts, and school functions. Her family will miss her homemade apple pies, her mouth-watering turkey, gravy, and mashed potatoes at the holidays, and how she so enjoyed decorating for the holidays,

Bill and Chris really enjoyed traveling and had fond memories of trips to South Korea, France, Brazil, Italy, Hawaii, back home to Elmira (their hometown), and Las Vegas.

Chris wanted to be home with her children while they were growing up, so she provided a home daycare business for years when the children were younger. After caring for children in her home, Chris showcased her amazing seamstress skills and worked for Ferrell Reed, a men's necktie company, where she hand-sewed thousands of neckties. After Ferrell Reed, she began working in the banking industry, where she worked at FirstBank, FNBO, and Compass Bank. Chris then accepted a role working for the Boulder County Treasurer's Office in Boulder. She retired from the County in 2022. Chris was also a long-time member of Westview Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon and taught Sunday school.

Chris is survived by her husband of 53 years, Bill; sons Paul (Manda) Deegan and Craig (Danielle) Deegan; daughter Jaci (Glenn) Steiner; and seven grandchildren: Morgan (James White) Deegan, Kim (Quentin) Vaughn, Jaimisen Deegan, Emily Deegan, Madi Steiner, Meg Steiner, and Nathan Deegan. Last year, Bill and Chris were blessed with two great-granddaughters: Finley White and Pepper Vaughn. Chris is also survived by her sister, Phyl (James) Berry, who has been a huge help with Chris’ care the past few months, and brother Rick (Sabine) Bailey, and several nieces and nephews. Chris is also survived by her two beloved and loyal doggies, Rebe and Nala, who have been by her side for many years and have been so devoted and tender during these last few months.

Chris was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Phyllis, and numerous cousins, aunts, and uncles.

Above all, Chris will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and willingness to help. She had a heart of gold and would drop everything to help anyone who needed it.

Chris will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A graveside service to honor Chris will be held at the Mountain View Memorial Park 3016 Kalmia Ave, Boulder, CO, on Friday, August 28, 2026, at 12:00 pm, followed by a private Celebration of Life for the family. We invite all those who would like to attend the graveside service to wear some of Chris’ favorite colors: pink, mint green, or purple.
