

Chris Linroth, 87, died November 17, 2017 in her home with her loving husband Bill at her side. Complications which arose in her 13th year of enduring Alzheimer's disease were the cause of death.Chris was born October 10, 1930 to Greek immigrants Theodore and Z (nee Theoharrris), Fotos in Chicago, Illinois. Her father was a cobbler and her mother was a homemaker. She grew up in the Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood where she developed an interest in nursing as a career. She attended Chicago Presbyterian Hospital school of nursing, graduating in the spring of 1953. As a registered operating room nurse her excellence made her widely sought for challenging surgeries, including the first-ever open heart surgery in Chicago at Chicago's Presbyterian St. Lukes hospital.At a ski club gathering she met a kind, handsome, and reserved man named William Linroth. She told him, I'll dance with you if you ask me. This was the start of a 60-year love affair that brought great joy to family and friends as well as to Chris and Bill. They married June 22, 1958 and arrived in Longmont in May 1966.While raising her three sons in Longmont, Chris was an active member of the First Congregational Church where she served as lay leader and co-led many aspects of its Christmas Home Tour. She was an active member of the St. Vrain Historical Society where she and a colleague rallied the entire community to save the historic St. Stephens Episcopal church from demolition. After a beautiful rennovation it still stands at the corner of Main street and 5th avenue in Longmont. In recognition of her decades-long service, the historical society's annual recognition award is now known as The Chris Linroth Volunteer of the Year award. She was also a member of the Longmont Art Guild, the Antique club and was a supporter of the Longmont Symphony. She was a wise mentor to many.She is survived by her husband Bill, her sons Mark (Martha), Jeff (Sue), and Ted (Hannah). She is also survived by nieces Kathy Cook of Long Beach, IN and Z Katsulos of Louisville, CO and 5 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters Mary Katsulos of St. Joseph, MI and Angie Mohr of Chicago, IL.A memorial service will be held at 2p.m. on January 12 at 1st United Church of Christ (Northwest corner of Francis St. And 9th ave. in Longmont).
