Christine "Chris" Hum Young, born December 29, 1947, in Delaware, Ohio, passed away in Longmont, Colorado, leaving behind the colorful legacy of a life fully lived. She attended Teaneck High School and later graduated from Monmouth University.
Chris lived life like it was always 5 o’clock somewhere, often with a drink in hand, a golf course nearby, and little concern for what anyone thought. She loved being out on the course, chasing sunshine, laughter, and good times wherever she could find them.
She also gave her time generously to causes she cared about. She enjoyed helping organize golf tournaments that raised money for the Longmont Coalition for Women in Crisis and she also volunteered with the Longmont Humane Society thrift store, where she found purpose in helping others and supporting animals in need.
While life with her was not always easy, she loved her family in her own way. She was extraordinarily proud of her grandsons, and that pride was something she carried openly and without reservation. Her grandson Christopher was by her side during the last few years of her life, and his presence was a true blessing. He offered steadfast help and companionship through the challenges that came with age, handling the day-to-day tasks that kept her comfortable, accompanying her to appointments, and making sure she never felt alone. His dedication gave her both peace of mind and moments of genuine joy, and the family is deeply grateful for the care and love he showed her.
The family also wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to the remarkable nurses and staff of Trail Winds Hospice, whose compassion, skill, and kindness made an immeasurable difference in Chris' final days. They cared for her with tenderness and dignity and brought comfort not only to her but to everyone who loved her. The family is forever grateful for the grace with which they do their work.
She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Prickett (Dave), of Bucharest, Romania; grandsons Tyler Piowaty (Delia), of Rota, Spain, and Christopher Drouillard, of Longmont, Colorado; ex-son-in-law Mark Drouillard, of Mesa, Arizona; brother Rick Hum (Sue Ann); sister Sue Strebel; niece Janine Richards (Dave); nephews PJ Strebel, of New Hampshire, and Richie Hum, of Colorado; and her cat, Gigi.
She leaves behind memories that are honest, human, and real, a reminder that people rarely fit neatly into simple descriptions. She will be remembered by those who knew her, for better and worse, and missed in ways both expected and unexpected.
No formal services will be held. In keeping with the way Chris lived on her own terms, her family asks that those who loved her raise a glass, step outside into the sunshine, and remember her as she was.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Safe Shelter of St. Vrain Valley, the Longmont Humane Society, or Trail Winds Hospice, three organizations whose dedication to care, compassion, and community reflects the generous spirit she carried throughout her life.
All arrangements are being handled by Howe Mortuary.
