
Christopher (Bear) Benedict Torres was born on January 16, 1970, in Sterling, Colorado, and passed away suddenly on September 14, 2011, in Longmont, Colorado. He was 41 years old. Bear was born with a congenital heart defect enduring two open-heart surgeries before the age of twelve. It was his heart that eventually failed.Bear spent his early years hunting geese and pheasants on the family farm and fishing in the North Sterling Reservoir. Bear graduated from Sterling High School in 1988. He then attended Regis University in Denver, Colorado, majoring in Political Science and graduated with a Bachelors degree in 1992. After graduation, he spent 3 months traveling throughout Europe. His spent his career in management positions in various retail stores from Nebraska to Arizona and multiple towns throughout Colorado. Bear was an avid sports fan spending his summers closely following the Colorado Rockies and the Denver Broncos during the winter. He enjoyed playing guitar, listening to all genres of music, and attending live shows. Bear was passionate about movies and shared his passion with all his nieces and nephews. He is survived by his mother, Julia Christine DeVera (Fogg) and stepfather Ray DeVera of Eaton, Colorado; his father, Jesse Ben Torres of Arvada, Colorado; his sister Karen and brother-in-law Jeff Wiemelt of Arvada, Colorado, and their two children Ian and Nick; his sister Pamela and brother-in-law Paul Wiemann of Morgan Hill, California, and their two children Olivia and Logan; his younger sister Andrea Torres and brother-in-law Matt Rooney of Lyons, Colorado, and their two children Maya Sol and Emma; and several special cousins, aunts, and uncles. He was preceded in death by his nephew, Jesse Wiemann; his aunt, Dorothy Torres Arnold; his uncle, Marc Lipps; and his grandparents, Dan and Carmen Torres, Nadine Schmale, and Phil Fogg.A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, Longmont. Cremation at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. Memorial Contributions to The Children's Hospital in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
