Coleen Smith was born December 31, 1929, in Jefferson, Georgia the daughter of Marlor and Lucy (Caudill) Smith. As a child, the family lived briefly in South Carolina. In 1937 they moved to Britt, Iowa. She graduated from Thompson High School in 1949. On January 21, 1950 she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Bob Devin, at Bethel Baptist Church in Britt, Iowa.
She accepted Jesus as her Savior at the age of 13. Coleen lived a faith filled life with her husband. They loved the Lord and shared that love with their children and grandchildren. Through the years she served as a Sunday school teacher and helped mold the lives of many children. Her favorite verse was Philippians 4:13.
In 1969 Bob and Coleen moved from Iowa to Colorado. They lived in Longmont until 1980, when they relocated to Webbers Falls, Oklahoma. After retirement they traveled - north in the summer to Canada and south in the winter to Texas, making friends wherever they went. They spent many summers with their Canadian "family" at La Belle's Birch Point Camp.
Families are like quilts, stitched together one piece at a time. Bob and Coleen had four children, 2 boys & 2 girls. From these 4 children came a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Through the years many of their legacies enjoyed time fishing on the Canadian waters and the thrill of the "Chutes". As the family grew, Bob and Coleen enjoyed having a FULL house for the holidays.
Coleen held secretarial and bookkeeping jobs off and on throughout her life. She worked for several types of businesses: school, newspaper, propane delivery, tomato green house, furniture store, oil distributors and church.
Coleen enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting. She poured her heart into each gift she made. If you knew her well, you have probably been given some of her handiwork. Treasure it!
She was never far from her camera and loved her pictures. The photo albums she leaves, tell the story of her life, family and friends. This love for pictures has been passed on to the next generations.
Coleen is survived by sons Larry (Sharon) of Lewis, Iowa and Keith (Denise) of Webbers Falls, Oklahoma, daughters Jean (Bob) Klug of Longmont, Colorado and Ilene (Scott) Marquardt of Platteville, Colorado, 13 Grandchildren and 22 Great-Grandchildren, one sister Madilene (Skip) Jensen of Robins, Iowa, numerous extended family members as well as friends they met while traveling the country.
