Corey Gene Taylor

Corey was born on November 11, 1970, in Denver, Colorado, to William Taylor and Sherrie Weis. He spent his early childhood in Weskan, Kansas, until the age of ten before moving to the Montbello area. Corey later earned his GED and proudly served his country in the United States Army. He also studied computer programming during his college years.

Corey worked as an auto mechanic until 2008, when he was medically deemed 100% disabled. Though health challenges changed his career path, they didn’t change his character. Corey was known for being kind-hearted, patient, and someone who would give the shirt off his back to help others. At the same time, he could be stubborn—once his mind was made up, there was rarely any changing it.

Corey met Kelly in 2010, and the two were married in 2012. In 2023, they moved to Johnstown from Mead, CO.

He had a passion for working with his hands and could often be found in the garage fixing or building something. Corey especially loved riding and working on motorcycles. He also enjoyed supporting his family and rarely missed a sporting event or school activity with his children.

Corey is preceded in death by his father in law David Gartrell.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kelly Taylor; his sons, Gavin Taylor (Becca), and Gage Taylor, all of Johnstown; his daughters, Krysten Garduno (Julian) of Colorado Springs and Margaret Rivas (Michael) of Cedar City, Utah. He was a proud grandfather to Elena Rivas and Sebastian Rivas, with another grandchild on the way.

He is further survived by his parents, Sherrie Weis of Weskan, Kansas and William Taylor of Denver, CO; his mother-in-law Kay Gartrell; his sister, Mayna Taylor (David) nephew TJ Garcia (fiancée Khrystin Weldon) and niece Amanda Garcia of Morris, Oklahoma, and sister Sandy Bosley (Robert) of Virginia Beach, Virginia; as well as many extended family members and close friends, including Jamie Dorn (Jackie) of Washington whom he considered a brother, and John Smith, and Lauren West (Emma Von Slochteren).

A celebration of life for Corey will occur later this summer – details are to be announced.
