Darl was born January 7, 1938 in Wheeling, West Virginia. He was the second of four sons born to John C. and Mary Robinson.
In 1941, the family moved to Schaefers Crossing, CO for two years. They then moved to Broomfield, CO where they owned and ran a farm.
Darl married Linda (Harding) Robinson on September 10, 1961 in Broomfield and would have celebrated their 60th Anniversary this year.
Following their marriage, Darl entered active service in the United States Army and worked as a mechanic at Ft. Carson, CO and Camp Roberts, CA from 1961 to 1963. He and Linda then moved back to Longmont, CO in order to start a family while he continued serving as a mechanic in the Army Reserves for six additional years. Darl’s civilian employment also involved turning wrenches as he worked in Broomfield with Bob Harding Mechanic Shop. After a year there, he moved on to Exxon in Boulder. Darl’s family also saw growth as he and Linda adopted a son, Robert Robinson in May of 1969, and daughter Jennifer in September of 1971. Fishing and family camping trips were a big part of the next several years.
Following work with Exxon, Darl and his business partners bought Valmont Sinclair at 28th and Valmont in Boulder, CO where he worked until his retirement in 1993. Darl was the textbook definition of the hard-to-find honest mechanic. He loved to serve, visit, and share stories with his customers. He was always willing to provide advice, or tools, or his time, often taking little in return other than the satisfaction of knowing he’d helped someone out and done a quality job. Darl’s honesty did have its limits, as everyone was fair game for the practical jokes he loved to pull. One had to be on their toes as any situation could invoke Darl’s orneriness.
Darl didn’t last long in retirement, as sitting idle was not in his nature. He found new employment with Kris and Kevin Bunson Floor Covering, working for another 10 years following his “1st retirement”. After retiring again, Darl spent time on other hobbies he loved: fishing, woodworking, and building small items.
In 2004, Darl and Linda welcomed their first grandchild when Mary Kathryn Dusza was born. Two years later, Darl became a grandparent for the second time as a grandson, Andrew George Dusza was born. Darl loved spending as much time being Grandpa as he could; often sharing his love and enjoyment of fishing, camping, and watching sports. Family events were also an important part of his life.
Darl was also a long-time member of American Legion Post 32 in Longmont, and he volunteered many hours for their children’s programs, continuing to take joy in seeing the happiness and appreciation in those his time benefitted.
In addition to his wife Linda, Darl is survived by two of his brothers and their respective spouses: Neil & Vi Robinson of Westminster, CO and Jack & Judi Robinson of Ft. Collins, CO. Darl is also survived by their two children and their respective spouses and grandchildren: Robert D. Robinson (spouse Shelley) of Frederick, CO and Jennifer (Robinson) Dusza (husband David) and grandchildren Mary Kathryn (MK) & Andrew of Longmont, CO. Many nieces, nephews, and cousins are also part of the extended surviving family as well as Jim Lee, (Darl’s bonus son) who he appreciated very much.
Darl was predeceased by his parents, John and Mary Robinson, Father and Mother-In-Law Robert E. and Kathryn Harding, and brother Glenn.
A celebration of Darl’s life will be held at The American Legion Post 32 on May 1st, 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm. Darl will be interred at Ft. Logan Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to The American Legion Post 32 (Longmont, CO) Children's Program.
The family would like to thank TRU Hospice Care, especially his nurses Becky and Michelle.
