Darrel was born January 28, 1941 in Evansville, IN to Carl and Evadean (Pearce) Turner. He moved to Estes Park in 1948 with his mother and father and graduated from Longmont High School in 1959. He married Judy VanWoensel on June 12, 1960 and graduated from the University of Denver in 1964.
Darrel joined the family business, Turner Realty, in 1980. Alongside his brother, Arnold, he continued to run the firm founded by their parents. As the first licensed Contractor in the city of Longmont, he helped develop subdivisions and built many custom homes. His most memorable accomplishment was the relocation of the 350,000 pound, brick Andrews-Murphy home, one and a half blocks downhill on Terry Street where it remains today. Darrel sold and managed commercial and residential property with unwavering honesty, integrity, and generosity until his passing.
He was a member of the Longmont Board of Realtors and attended Lifebridge Christian Church. Second only to his love for his family was his love of performance automobiles and, as a member of the Trail Ridge Runners Jeep Club, he graciously shared his vast knowledge of Jeeps with anyone needing information or advice. Traveling was a passion of his, whether it was a Jeep trip in his RV, spending the winter in Arizona, or a quick weekend away, Darrel loved it.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Evadean Turner and his son Mitchell Turner.
Darrel is survived by his wife of 55 years, Judy (VanWoensel) Turner, son Michael Turner, grandson Wesley Turner, granddaughter Lauren (Turner) Garbett, Daughter-in-law Robin Turner, brother and sister-in-law Arnold and Pat (Cushman) Turner, niece Katherine Turner, nephew Jesse Turner as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great grandchildren and extended family.
His patient and caring nature were prevalent throughout both his personal and professional life. Well-loved by all that knew him, Darrel provided continuous support and was truly the glue that held us all together.
A private burial will be held for immediate family. The memorial service will be on Saturday, the 9th of January at 10:00 am at the Lifebridge Christian Church on Hwy 66 and Gay St.
