

David was born July 14, 1927 in Beggs, Oklahoma, the son of Joseph B. and Maude Mary (Haigwood) Cook. Immediately following his high school graduation he enlisted in the Army Air Force, serving until 1948. He then became a part of the Air Force Reserves until 1951 when he re-enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving actively until 1953. From 1960 through 1990 he served as an officer in the United States Air Force Reserves.
Mr. Cook earned dual degrees in Petroleum Engineering and Geology. In his free time he enjoyed fishing, flying, history and writing. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Boulder.
He is survived by his children David (Karen) Cook, Longmont, CO, Elizabeth (John) Deland, Erie, CO and Eileen (Robert) Cook-Yemmo, Loveland, CO, six grandchildren; Kristie Freeman, Jennifer Cook, Laurissa Pilkington, Anthony Sayre, Anne Sayre and Curtis Yemmo and 6 great grandchildren Sarah, Hayley, Jacob, Alexander, Jeffrey and April.. He is further survived by his brothers Gene (Louise) Cook, Woodward, OK and Norman (Patsy) Cook, Shawnee, OK and his sisters Juanita Sims, Del City, OK, Catherine (Jim) Pettyjohn, Shawnee, OK and Linda Bradford, Shawnee, OK and his closest companion, his dog Mac Henry who now resides with Eileen and her family. There are also numerous nieces and nephews surviving.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his son John Cook and his former wife Wanda Elaine Phillips Cook and his sister and brother-in-law Mary and Chuck Ridout.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at Howe Mortuary Chapel with Reverend John Hess of 1st Presbyterian Church, Boulder, CO. officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Staging Area A, Denver, CO.
