

David Schey, local golf legend, died peacefully with his family surrounding him, January 25, 2009 at the HospiceCare Center, Louisville. He was 60.Dave was born July 8, 1948, in Longmont to Theodore Schey, Jr. and Rocelia ""Celo"" Harrington Schey. Dave grew up in Longmont graduating from Longmont High School in 1966. He married Candis Dixon on June 14, 1970 in Longmont.From their home on Sunset Street, Dave and his brother, Teed, began nightly visits to the Sunset Golf Course as young boys. It was a game he instantly fell in love with and became accomplished almost immediately. He was part of the state champion golf team his junior year at Longmont High School. He was Longmont's greatest golfer for the better part of the last 45 years, winning numerous city and club championships, too numerous to mention. He had a much-heralded record at the state and regional level, winning open invitational championships in Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Arizona and Nevada. He was runner-up of the Colorado State Medal Play Championship on two different occasions. He was selected to the prestigious Colorado Cup teams several times during the 1970s and 80s. He holds the course record of 61 at Sunset Golf Course, which he shot during the city championship. Dave attended Adams State College, Phoenix Junior College, and Colorado State University, all on golf scholarships.David worked as a Realtor for a number of years, affiliated with the Dworak Agency, the Pratt Agency, and Coldwell Banker.An active member of his community, Dave volunteered and contributed to many causes. He was active in the Potpourri Players, later the Longmont Theater Company, acting and directing in numerous productions. He was a board member of The St. Vrain Historical Society for over twenty years, serving as President two different times. A member of Twin Peak Rotary Club, he served as President there also. An active member at Fox Hill Country Club, he served on the board of directors two terms. He attended Flatirons Community Church, Lafayette. He had become the consummate Nebraska Cornhusker fan in the past few years.Preceding him in death are his parents.Surviving are his wife of Longmont; two daughters, Jennifer Gilmore and her husband, Ted, of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Sarah Schey of Longmont; a brother, Theodore Schey, III and his wife, Anne, of Longmont; a sister, Jill Olson and her husband, Michael, of Bennington, Kansas; two grandchildren, Taylor and Ted Jr. ""TJ"" Gilmore; nieces, Megan Schey of Keystone, Rachel Cooper of Kansas City, Missouri, and Dinah Vaught of Branson, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Cathie Constable and her husband, Jim, of Golden; and mother-in-law, Leona Dixon of Longmont.A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 29, 2009 at Howe Mortuary and Cremation Services, Longmont. A cremation will follow. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 30 at Flatirons Community Church, 400 W.
