July 13, 1927 - January 22, 2021
David Slinger of Longmont passed away peacefully at home with his wife by his side at the age of 93. Dave was born in Long Prairie, Minnesota in 1927. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a long time member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Longmont, Colorado. Dave lived and farmed in Wolverton, Minnesota. In 1947 he met the love of his life, Doris, and they were married on June 12, 1948. In 1967 he began his employment with “Farmland Cooperatives” in Wolverton, Minnesota. He continued his employment with the cooperatives until his retirement. He moved to Longmont in 1981.
Dave was always very passionate about his desire to serve the farmers of the local Cooperatives that he worked for. Dave was recognized with many awards for sales records at the Coop’s he served. Anyone who worked with him understood clearly where the phrase two ton in a one ton truck came from…...definitely watching Dave load a truck.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, John and Amy Slinger, and one brother Donald. He is survived by his five children: Dale (Linda) Slinger of Bethune, CO, David (Nancy) of Richfield, MN, Dan (Linda) of Stratton, CO, Cindy (Byron) Thompson of Mead, CO, Kevin (Elaine) of Greeley, CO, and his brother Bruce of Wolverton, MN. He also was blessed with thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. He also leaves his wife, Doris, who he always said, “has been by my side for 72 years”. Memorial contributions in Dave’s honor can be sent to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1000 15th Ave, Longmont, CO 80501.
