

Deborah "Debby" Ellen Shaffer-Meyer, 78, of Longmont, CO passed away July 2, 2024 in Westminster, CO. Born in Detroit, MI on April 3, 1946 to Paul and Constance Shaffer. Debby graduated from Traverse City High School in 1964 and then the following fall attended University of Michigan graduating with her bachelors of science in education in 1968. After graduating she moved to Colorado and eventually settled in Longmont. She graduated with her Master's degree in 1971 from the University of Denver and ultimately achieved her doctorate from the University of Northern Colorado in 1990. She was a teacher and administrator working with deaf and hard of hearing children which was a passion of hers since she herself was hard of hearing.
She met and married Leo Meyer on October 13, 1979 and they remained married until his passing in 2017. Through this marriage Debby got a "bonus" family by way of Linda and Lee Meyer and their children and Lee's step-children.
Debby was a long standing member of the First Congregational Church of Christ and volunteered at the Longmont United Hospital with her therapy dog, Lady. She loved skiing, fishing, boating, golfing, and photography.
She is preceded in death by her mother Constance, father Paul, step-mother Mary-Jane, husband Leo, and step-daughter Linda. She is survived in death by her step-son Lee (Laura), and their children Bibianna, Yolanda (Manuel), Calvin Jr (Rebecca), Chandra (Eric), and Mikaela (Jake). Several more great grandchildren as well as many more cousins. A Memorial service for Debby will be held at 10:00AM on July 18, 2024 at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Longmont.
