Dr. Delbert (Del) Lafayette Chapman was born on March 17, 1928, in Morgan, Texas to his parents, Alberta (Newton) and Leslie Chapman. He was the 7th child of nine. He entered into the arms of Jesus on October 15, 2024. He was 96 years old.
He has one surviving sister, Bobbye Joyce Sims of Arlington, TX. He is preceded in death by his parents, 7 siblings, his wife, Lena Lucille, and his son, Roger Del Chapman. He is survived by one daughter, Patricia Kee, and her husband, LaDon Kee from Berthoud, Colorado. He has five grandchildren, Chloe Chapman, Rachel Karch, Leslie Kee, Tiffany Kee (married to Matt Offutt), and Lonnie Kee (married to Camille Pfaff). Del also had the pleasure of enjoying the company of his five great-grandchildren, Lillian Chapman, Lionell Chapman, Logan Offutt, Jayce Kee, and Brynlee Kee, and one on the way. There are also many nieces and nephews he loved and mentored. The grand puppies were always a welcome sight too!
Del married Lucille in 1947 and they started their family. A few years later he joined the Marines. He was honorably discharged in 1952 as a Sergeant. He graduated from Texas Christian University in 1957 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. He had many jobs in his lifetime including working in the corn and cotton fields, oil rigs, building, pastoring, singing, starting his own country western band, working on fighter jets in the military, bookkeeping, accounting, and many other odd jobs.
One of his greatest accomplishments was obtaining a doctorate degree in Theology at the age of 75. He also created an online college called, Colorado Theological Seminary for people desiring to further their education for ministry purposes. This was a huge success and is still a working college in good standing due to his friend and colleague, Gary Trysbiak’s direction and management.
Dad will be remembered for his kind ways, soft-spoken manner and his love for Jesus and his fellow man. In the last year, he was able to be in a place that allowed him to enjoy playing dominoes and bingo with friends and received the company of family and loved ones.
