Delwyn DeVasher Dickey of Longmont, Colorado passed away peacefully on Monday, March 18th surrounded by immediate family members at his side. Delwyn was born May 25th, 1934 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He was the eldest child of Dwight D. and Eula Webb Dickey.
Delwyn spent his early years between Stillwater, Oklahoma and Mulvane, Kansas. He was an excellent student who loved music and sports. He played the trumpet throughout high school and was a track runner and varsity basketball player—activities he enjoyed throughout most of his life. Delwyn’s family highly prized education. His parents insisted on good work and grades. He graduated from Mulvane high school in 1952, and later from Kansas State University in 1956, with a baccalaureate degree in Engineering. In 1964 the State of Colorado awarded him a P.E. licensure to practice Mechanical Engineering. His first professional assignment was with Boeing Aircraft. Later, he would move to Utah taking a position at Hercules Engineering, where his team was responsible for the design and engineering of the Minuteman Missile.
In 1963 he married Wanda Marie Hammer. The couple moved from Utah to Boulder, Colorado to accept an assignment at Ball Brothers, which continues today as Ball Aerospace. Beginning in 1969, they welcomed son Donovan into the family. In the fall of 1970 daughter DeeAnn arrived. In 1972 Delwyn (Del) and Wanda became small business owners. They sold their new home that Del had recently built in the Sombrero Ranch/Ridglea Hills area to fund the startup of a new business, now Danish Furniture of Colorado, Inc. The busy family enjoyed many activities together. Over many years, Del and his family would continue to take business trips to Europe attending furniture design fairs, with the aim to purchase fine furnishings for retail sale. The family also spent vacation time in Vancouver and Victoria, B.C. Canada. Del loved the outdoors. The family often skied, rode horses, biked and went camping in the Colorado mountains. Del loved people and learning new things. He was a great listener and non-judgmental. He was occasionally a quiet gentleman, but also always interested in others. He was forever asking questions. He was elegant and impeccably dressed. In 1997 Del was widowed. He would later marry Marlene Harrison in Littleton, CO in 1998. Del and Marlene spent many happy years working, relaxing and traveling together to spend time with a multiplying family. This combined family embraced Del with tremendous love and care.
Sadly, his last few years were bedridden—but, he always had a wealth of family and friends who visited with him continually.
He is survived by his wife Marlene of 20 years; his son, Donovan Delwyn DeVasher and his wife Catherine and daughter, DeeAnn Garrish. He is also survived by his step children, KimberLee and husband Tony Bush, Jason Harrison, Lee and his wife Dori Harrison, Gavin and his wife Patti Harrison.
