Denise Leah Young

She was a mischievous child who was full of energy and loved insects and animals. She graduated from Riverview Christian Academy in 1993. She then attended and graduated from Metropolitan State University with a Bachelors in Technical Writing and Editing degree.

She was married to Jason Young on July 27, 1996 where they lived in Denver, Colorado before moving to Washington State for four years and Oregon for three years before returning to Colorado. They moved around a few times, finally settling in Longmont and raised their children near their grandparents.

Denise worked a variety of jobs including at the Fellowship of Christian Athletes as an administrative assistant, a writer for a local newspaper in Myrtle Point, Oregon, and finally settling in the wonderful world of library, where she found her calling. When someone came to her desk for help finding information, her eyes would light up and she would direct them to all the information they needed (and some). At the Longmont Library, she took on the Discovery Pass program and added many museums and parks and later started the seed library alongside the annual gardening fair, which allowed many to start growing their own food and flowers.

She wrestled with God to have an authentic relationship rather than accepting established religion, but he showed her relationship with Him by accepting, loving, and and being a good steward to all she met.

She was a devoted 4-H dog leader for almost 20 years, giving thousands of hours to helping kids learn, grow, and feel encouraged. She was also a strong presence in the dog showing world through UKC and Silken Windhounds, of which she had 3; Jett, Django, and Talon. Her fellow competitors and friends always described her as a supportive and kind person who was always willing to help with ring stewarding, holding dogs outside the ring, cheering people on, and congratulating them on their wins.

She is survived by her husband Jason, daughters Ella and Annika (Ani), mother Charlene Blakeley, brother Barry Blakeley, mother-in-law Sharon Young, brother and sister-in-law Matt and Mariannie Young, niece Angela Young, and several cousins. She is preceded in death by her father, Harold Blakeley and her dogs Megan, Cinnamon, and Ginger.

A Celebration of Life will be held on September 3rd, 2026 at 3:30pm at the Journey Church 2000 Pike Rd, Suite A Longmont, CO 80501. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Friends of the Longmont Library using the link below.
