Dion Eric Harris, 60, passed away on Thursday evening, January 3rd, 2019 at his home in Longmont, Colorado due to heart complications. He was born on August 19th, 1958 to Alfonso and Arlene (Palmer) Harris. He was eldest of three boys and the protector of all of his younger family members while growing up in Frederick, Maryland. He and his family made Colorado their home in 1978.

Dion enjoyed playing sports including football in his youth and was a part of a Longmont softball league for many years as an adult. He was active in his community helping with local elections, canvassing and registering voters. He was previously married to Leann Illig and remained close friends with her and her family over the years. He worked at IBM for over 20 years and made countless friends there. In fact, Dion made friends everywhere he went and it's easy to understand why.

Dion always looked for an opportunity to help anyone he crossed paths with. He was supportive and loving, often putting others needs before his own. He had a warm, loving smile that was unforgettable. Though he was always ready to share a laugh with you he was also content to just to sit and enjoy the moment.

Dion’s mother Arlene was the light of his life and they not only had an unbreakable mother and son bond, but they were undeniably best friends. Dion was an incredibly loving and caring Uncle to his nieces and nephews, and adored each and every one of them. He had many friends who he shared deep bonds with. If you were his friend he considered you family and he quickly became “Uncle D” to just about every person he met.

Dion lived a full life in his short 60 years and is survived by his mother Arlene, his two brothers Alfonso and Wayland, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his father Alfonso Sr. in 2010. Dion leaves behind a legacy of laughter and love. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

The following arrangements have been made at Howe Mortuary (439 Coffman St, Longmont, CO), viewing on Jan. 8th from 5 - 7pm followed by the funeral on Jan. 9th at 1 pm.

My family would like to send condolences to the Harris family. I was blessed to have been introduced to Dion's Mom, when they first came to Colorado. Through Arlene I had met Dion. He was an amazing person, very kind, companionate, always was there to help out a friend. I will never forget his beautiful smile, and his outlook on life. He will be missed greatly, and left to soon. He is watching over all of us now and is our angel. God Bless You.

Harris family,
I’m sorry I can’t make it to the funeral but Dion will always be in my memory. He was an amazing man whose smile lit up every room. He made sure all of the little ones knew they were loved and made everyone feel like family. I look up to Dion and Arlene’s mother son relationship, it was easy to tell they were best friends and I loved watching them together. Dion has blessed all he has met with his personality. I have so many funny memories with Dion and I’m proud to have known such an amazing and loving human being.
Love,
Tahlia

I am blessed to know the Harris family and feel fortunate we were neighbors for years. I'm equally heartbroken at the passing of Dion. One of the kindest, most geniune, good-hearted men I've ever met. Loyal, true and good and you can see it in his smile and in his eyes. I see, even as a baby, that smile. I'm so very sad. My Tim, who lost his oldest son at 11, sends his deepest condolences and understanding, Miss Arlene. I love you all and pray for peace for you in this hard hard time.

Dear Family,
My condolences to you all during this most difficult time.
Dion was one of the sweetest persons I have ever met.
I knew him through IBM and even though I did not know
him very well, he was always so kind whenever we did
meet after I left IBM. He always had a smile on his
face and made my day better for having bumped into
him. I am so very sorry for your loss. God bless you
all during this difficult time.

To Ms. Arlene and all family members, my deepest condolences to you all. Dion was my classmate from elementary to High School, we sure had many memories together. Every time he would come to Frederick and I had the opportunity to spend time with him, I just couldn’t believe how he kept his youthful look, still looking like back in 1976. That smile was a big radiant smile. In school everybody wanted to hang with Dion, he was so cool back then, everybody wanted to be cool just like Dion. I remember Dion and I together almost started a school riot, lol, but it was for a good cause, to change some unfair school policies. Dion was the go to man to stand up for our rights!

Wow! another one of ours gone to soon, now, your with Fox and Joy, kiss them for me and we will all meet again soon.

Dear friend I’m truly going to miss you, sending you love and a Peaceful Rest.

God keep you in his arms my brotha....76ers 4 ever...

Deepest Condolences from the Cooper Family. My fondest memory of Dion was elementary school when we thought we were in love. We were in band together and he would say I will carry your clarinet if you carry my saxiphone. He was a charmer way back then with the big beautiful smile. Truly missed but never forgotten.
