Dolores Irene (Ohlmann) Aswege was called to her heavenly home by her loving Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, November 24, 2020. She passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home with her dear husband Delroy and her daughter Dayna at her side.
Dolores Irene Ohlmann was born on July 19, 1931 to Helmuth Ohlmann and Selma (Stolzenburg) Ohlmann at the ranch of her grandparents, Fred and Mary Stolzenburg, in Kilgore, Cherry County, Nebraska. Premature at birth, Dolores was baptized that day by her Grandmother Mary Stolzenburg. Her baptismal affirmation was on August 2, 1931 by Pastor William Eulert of the German Lutheran Church.
Dolores grew up in Valentine, Nebraska and surrounding areas. She attended grade school in Valentine, including her 8th grade year where she attended Zion Lutheran School in Valentine. During this year, her father, Helmuth, encouraged her to become a Lutheran elementary school teacher. Led by the Spirit, Dolores was determined to pursue this goal. The next fall she took the train to New Ulm, Minnesota to attend Dr. Martin Luther Academy. Dolores graduated from Dr. Martin Luther Academy in 1949 and returned to enroll in Dr. Martin Luther College to become a teacher. At college, she made many close friends, and especially loved singing in the Concert Choir.
After only one year of college, the Holy Spirit led Dolores to answer the call to be an emergency teacher at the Apache Indian Lutheran Mission in Cibecue, Arizona. Dolores loved her work with the Apache children! All in all, she taught 2 years in Cibecue, two years at Immanuel Lutheran in Gibbon, Minnesota, and returned to the Apache Indian Lutheran Mission in Peridot, Arizona to teach two more years.
While in Minnesota, Dolores met Delroy on a blind date arranged by friends. After Delroy was discharged from the U.S. Army, he pursued a relationship with Dolores. In February, 1956, Delroy traveled to Peridot to get to know Dolores and to help out at the Mission. They were engaged to be married in February, 1956.
Delroy and Dolores were married on August 19, 1956 in Valentine, Nebraska. Their marriage was blessed with four children: David Delroy (May, 1957), Dawn Marie (July, 1958), Daniel Dale (August, 1959), and Dayna Irene (May, 1964). They began their married life on the Aswege farm in Johnson, Minnesota, and lived over the years in Nebraska, Iowa, Arizona, and Colorado. Delroy and Dolores spent the last 30 years of their marriage at their home in Loveland, Colorado. Delroy and Dolores would like to thank God for His institution of marriage for all people. They were blessed with 64 years together.
Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, Helmuth and Selma Ohlmann and her brother, Don Ohlmann. She is survived by her loving husband, Delroy Aswege, her children, David (Nancy) Aswege, Dawn Aswege, Daniel (Jess) Aswege, and Dayna (Mark) Asche; her grandchildren: Rachael Aswege, Louis Asche, Abi Aswege, Kate Aswege, Ben Aswege, Liz Aswege, Josh Aswege, and Jonny Aswege. Survivors include her brother Richard (Claudia) Ohlmann and sister Dorine (Arlo, now deceased) Nohrenberg, sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews, and many, many dear friends.
Dolores’s funeral service, the Celebration of God’s Grace, will be conducted by Pastor James Tauscher on December 4, 2020 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Longmont, Colorado. Her earthly remains will await the resurrection and her Savior’s return at the Foothills Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Longmont, Colorado.
