

Donald Eugene Loomiller, age 83, Longmont native died August 8, 2013 at Longmont United Hospital following several months of ill health. Mr. Loomiller was born in Longmont on January 20, 1930 to Franklin ""Frank"" Howard and Fannie Avis (Berry) Loomiller. He grew to adulthood on the family farm on west Ninth Avenue, where his father operated the Longmont Dairy and raised Holsteins and award winning palomino and quarter horses.
When Longmont started growing around the farm, the family sold the land which now houses the First Congregational Church, Longmont High School, Francis Street Shopping Center and private residences. The family donated 15 acres to the City of Longmont for the Longmont Loomiller Park. Don graduated from Longmont High School and was in the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1952 during the Korean Conflict.
Don married Shirley Ann Drury on May 24, 1953 in Longmont. They later divorced in 1962. He married again on November 5, 1965 to Wilma ""Billie"" (Rossow) Mobley. They were married for 46 years. She died on November 8, 2011.
Don was a 50-year plus active member of the Longmont American Legion, Post #32. He served in many offices, including being Post Commander in 1969-70, 1979-80, and 1991-92. He was a member of the Post Honor Guard for many years. In District 4, he served as Adjutant, Junior and Senior Vice Commander and District Commander in 1975-76. He retired from the University of Colorado in Boulder as a painter in the Building and Grounds Department. Don was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Longmont. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge and was very active in the community.
Survivors include; a son, Craig (Charlotte) Loomiller of Owasso, OK, and daughter, Cynthia (Mark) Sandifer of Crown Point, IN. Stepdaughter Mary Mobley-Corbat of Mead, stepson, David (Kerry) Mobley of Longmont and stepson Jim Mobley of Omaha, NE also survive. Three grandchildren; Shane (Diana) Clark of Kersey, CO; Sgt. Jason (Kandie) Clark of Fort Carson, CO, now serving in the Army in Kuwait; and Cory (Kristi) Clark of Gill, CO. Eight step-grandchildren; Andrea (Brandon) Enda of Oklahoma City, OK, Shawn Mobley, Martin Mobley, Andrew Mobley, Cara Corbat, Brianna Corbat, Gillian Mobley and Caitlin Mobley survive, in addition to seven great-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by his parents, wife ""Billie"", and two sisters, Wanda and Nancy.
Memorial Services will be Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church in Longmont with Pastor Kent Schnegelberger officiating. A reception will immediately follow at the American Legion Post #32 in Longmont. Military Honors and burial will be at 2:15 p.m. at Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver, staging area C.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Legion Veterans Program or to a veterans program of your choice in care of Howe Mortuary.
