Donald G. Steele, 87, passed away in Fort Collins, CO, Monday, January 8, 2024. Don was born in
St Johnsbury, VT, the son of Wayne & Anna Majorie Lawrence Steele.
Don graduated from St. Johnsbury, VT Trade School in 1955 where he studied Drafting, was Captain
of the Football Team & Student Council leader. He joined the National Guard & served as Honor
Guard for President Eisenhower. Don married Mauna Claudette Peavey & they moved to Hartford,
CT where Don continued his education at Pratt & Whitney & PACE University, NYC.
Don worked as a Machinist & Designer for GE in Burlington, VT & Phoenix, AZ & the National Lab in
Los Alamos, NM. This experience led him to IBM Boulder, CO 1966 where he created 12 patented
tool designs. After 30 years at IBM he worked for Lexmark & Bing before retiring. Throughout his
career he took great pride in his work & relished the friendships he made throughout his professional
career.
Don was a true outdoorsman & adventure seeker. He enjoyed skiing, cycling, prospecting &
exploring the National Parks with his family. He loved his time in the wilderness with his son Kevin,
hunting, fishing, camping, & honing their skills as archers & marksmen.
Don & Mauna enjoyed traveling to all 50 States. While at home they loved gardening & creating
beautiful water features.
Don is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mauna, son~Kevin(Helain), daughters~Kellie(Mark Newman)
& Julie(Matt Dudgeon).4 grandchildren~Chantry Dasaro(Patrick) & Tate Chartrand (Jabin) Alanna &
Leah. 5 great-grandchildren, Dylan, Olive, Weston, Sirena & Tanya, Sister Mary Caswell & Brother
Paul Steele(Lucy). We will miss you & keep you in our hearts forever.
Memorial Service will be held January 27, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. Reimagine Life Ministries,1201 N.
College Ave, Fort Collins, Colorado
