Dorothy Ruth McIntyre was born to Sterling Cornelius White and Ruth Mae (Hendee) White on December 20, 1926, in Table Grove, IL. She grew up with her two brothers and one sister in Table Grove. As a young woman, she worked as an aid at Proctor Hospital, in Peoria, IL and had an unfulfilled dream of becoming a nurse one day because of her experience there. She was married to Donald (Don) Dean McIntyre on December 14, 1946. Don and Dorothy had three beautiful children, Margot, David (Dave) and Donna, and her family became one of her greatest life passions. She and Don moved with Donna to Colorado in March of 1969 and Margot and Dave both followed with their families shortly after. They lived in the country near Mead for many years prior to moving to Longmont in 1984.
Dorothy found the courage to thrive as a widow for nearly one-third of her life. She was a very active member of her church, Bethel Temple/New Creation Church in Longmont and joined a hiking group through the Longmont Senior Center. She made lifelong friends as a charter member of a widow’s group, “God’s Special Ladies”, 50+ group, “Soaring Eagles”, and the “Monday” hiking group she joined through the Longmont Senior Center. She enjoyed traveling and hiking with her family, friends and tour groups, always brought the best hiking snacks, and created many good memories on the adventures she took.
Dorothy’s primary passion was for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, her family was a very close second and hiking and traveling after that. One of her proudest accomplishments was hiking the Grand Canyon at age 64, and her favorite playground in God’s creation was Rocky Mountain National Park. She was dearly loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband (Don McIntyre), her sister (Nelda) and brother (Marvin), her eldest daughter (Margot E. Brewer), her son (David D. McIntyre) and her grandson (Eric D. McIntyre). She is survived by her brother (Sterling Monroe White), her youngest daughter Donna Arellano (Chris) of Greeley, CO, her Son-in-Law James Brewer of Greeley, CO, her Daughter-in-Law Nancy McIntyre of Longmont, CO, her Grandchildren Shannon (Doug) McCasland, Shane (Jill) Brewer, (Kristin McIntyre), Heather McIntyre, Aaron Arellano, Heidi McIntyre, and Jared (Kelly) Arellano, and several Great and Great-Great Grandchildren.
Memorial contributions can be made to Samaritan’s Purse or Operation Smile in memory of Dorothy McIntyre. She felt deeply connected to the vision and purpose of these ministries.
A funeral service was held for Dorothy on Friday, March 3, 2023 at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel in Longmont. Following the funeral service her burial took place at Foothills Gardens of Memory.
