

Doyle Duane Jackson, of Longmont, CO died Monday, May 1, 2006 at Longmont United Hospital. He was 73 years old.Born in his grandparent?s home in Akron, Colorado November 29, 1932, the oldest of four children, to Dorman and Iva (White) Jackson. He grew up and attended schools in Akron, graduating from Akron High School with the Class of 1950. Doyle was inducted into the U.S. Army on February 2, 1953, while in boot camp he married Betty E. Hefty in Junction City, Kansas on April 18, 1953. He deployed to Korea shortly thereafter receiving the Korean Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. After serving honorably in the Army, Doyle went on to receive an Electronics Associate Degree from Pueblo Junior College. In 1958, he was the first radio broadcaster and chief engineer of KDGO in Durango, Colorado. He was one of the first disc jockey's to put the radio station on the air, something that he was very proud of. In 1959 he left the radio station to begin a long career with the Federal Aviation Administration, he attended several of their schools and worked in several different locations before being promoted to the Denver Air Route Traffic Control Center in Longmont in 1971. Doyle retired from the FAA in June of 1987. Doyle was a Master Mason with the St. Vrain Lodge #23 AF & AM. Was coronated 32nd Degree Mason in Scottish-Rite Freemasonry in 1972, a member of El Jebel Shriner?s in Longmont. He was a lifetime member of VFW post #2601, and a member of American Legion post #32. Doyle was bestoyed the Honorary rank of Colonel in the Colorado National Guard by Governor Richard Lamm in 1976. He loved being a private pilot, he also enjoyed genealogy, computers, and spending time with his grandchildren.He is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Rocklan King Jackson, brother-in-law, William Stice and niece Linda Marie Hefty. Doyle is survived by his wife Betty; 2 sons, Duane Jackson of Longmont and Mark (Paula) Jackson of Highlands Ranch, CO; a daughter Karen (Gary) Epperson of Longmont; 7 grandchildren: Daniel(Krisy) Jackson, Elizabeth Jackson, Susan (Todd) Heuman, Casey (Erin) Plagman, Chad Epperson, Kristopher Jackson, and Kayla Jackson; 4 great-grandchildren: Leigha & Cordel Heuman, Kymberly & Meagan Plagman; brother Donald (Jackie)Jackson of Longmont; 2 sisters, Joyce (Max)Gebauer of Greeley, CO and Carole Korrell of Federal Heights, CO; brothers-in-law Kenneth (Katie) Hefty of Pueblo, CO, Phillip (Sue) Hefty of Oklahoma City, OK, Richard Hefty of Pueblo, CO, Robert (Sharon) Hefty of Pueblo, CO; and sister-in-law Rebecca Stice of Pueblo, CO.There will be a memorial service including Masonic Rites and Military Honors at 1:00 pm Friday, May 5, 2006 at Howe Mortuary Chapel in Longmont.
