

Earl Weiss, Lt. Col. U.S. Air Force (Ret.), of Longmont and Boulder, passed away Friday, November 24, 2006 at Longmont United Hospital. He was 84 years old.Earl was born April 19, 1922 in St. Louis, Missouri, to David and Beatrice (Scolnik) Weiss. After graduating from high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force in 1948. He served in the Burma ? China area during World War II. During his years of service, Mr. Weiss was stationed in many locations including Alaska, India, Spain, and Roswell, New Mexico. He was honorably discharged in 1964 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He attended Baylor University.On March 21, 1953, Earl married Alice Mendenhall at Luke Air Force Base, Arizona. The couple made their home in Boulder in 1964 and Longmont in 2000.Mr. Weiss worked for Boulder Community Hospital in the purchasing department until his retirement. He volunteered as a paralegal investigator with the Boulder County District Attorney?s Office and was active in a variety of community organizations including his homeowner?s association, and as past President of the Boulder Kiwanis Club.He enjoyed walking daily, traveling, music, woodworking and reading.He is survived by his wife, Alice, of Longmont; two daughters, Laurie Destito and her husband, Tom, of Boulder, and Dale Weiss of Moab, Utah; a brother, Alvin Weiss and his wife, Gloria, of Pomo, California; a sister, Delores Todor, of St. Louis, Missouri; and two grandchildren, Annie and Mike.He was preceded in death by his parents.Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Howe Mortuary, Longmont.
