Earl was born March 5th 1935 in Park River, North Dakota. He was the only child of Agnes Francis (Majksner/Maixner) Zeman and Joseph Frank Zeman. In 1952, Earl graduated Salutatorian from Shanley High School in Fargo, North Dakota. From 1952-1955 he attended North Dakota State University. In 1956, Earl enlisted in the US Navy and served as an Electronics Technician on the USS Hornet CVA 12 in the Pacific Ocean. After an honorable discharge from the Navy, Earl graduated with a degree in Industrial Engineering (BSIE) from North Dakota State University. After graduation, he met and married Gail Irene (Wynn) Zeman at Saint Mary's Cathedral in Fargo, North Dakota. He accepted employment with the Air Force Civilian Service at McClellan Air Force Base, Sacramento, California.
Earl and Gail had 2 children; Mark Zeman and Jane (Zeman) Holen. In 1966, when Earl accepted employment at IBM, the family was moved to Boulder, Colorado. Earl was actively involved in all of his children’s interests, especially boy scouts with Mark and horse shows with Jane. Being a devoted husband and father, he rarely missed his children's events. Earl's passion was gardening, as well as lots of reading and a little writing. He loved nature and animals and always had a dog or two. Additional interests included many camping trips, fishing, the Minnesota Twins and eventually the Colorado Rockies.
Sacred Heart of Jesus was where the family attended church in Boulder for many years. They were involved in the Sunday school program, as well as active participants in Marriage Encounter. After a 26 year career at IBM, as an Industrial Engineer Resource Planner, Earl retired. He moved on to part-time employment and being a full-time grandfather! He enjoyed his 3 grandchildren’s many sporting events, dance performances and other celebrations. In 2001, Earl and his wife Gail moved to Longmont after living in Boulder for 30 years. He continued to garden, but he and Gail also did more vacationing and cruising in warmer climates. Earl was a gentle, kind, caring, supportive and generous man who always put everyone’s needs before his own.
Earl leaves behind those who will love, miss and remember him always, his son Mark and wife Linda Cateora Zeman, grandson Conrad Zeman; daughter Jane and husband Jeff Holen, grandson Landon Kellogg, granddaughter Abby Kellogg, step grandsons Ethan and Luke Holen; brother-in-law Richard and wife Sheryl (Goodlet) Wynn; nephew Waid Wynn and Christina Dix and daughter Leah Wynn; niece Julene Romsland and nephew Derek Romsland; plus his cousins; many other relatives; and his treasured dog Sasha.
It gives us great comfort to know that Earl will be reunited with those that preceded him, his beloved wife Gail; his parents Agnes and Joe Zeman; sister-in-law Linda (Wynn) Romsland and spouse Ronnie Romsland; brother-in-law Arthur Wynn; as well as his grandparents; aunts; uncles; cousins; friends; and of course, all his beloved puppy dogs!
