Eleanor Eloise Osborn (Edgar)

Born to Will D. and Libbie (Gault) Edgar on August 9, 1913, on a wheat farm near Lyons, Kansas, she grew up immersed in music and the church. Eleanor was an accomplished pianist. Upon graduation from Sterling college in Sterling, Kansas, with a double major in English and music, she took a teaching position at Vroman, Colorado, where she met and married Jesse Osborn. She taught music and English to K-12 in Manzanola and Rocky Ford, Colorado Public School Systems for 31 years. She was

still being contacted by former students in her 97th year.

Eleanor was church organist for the Manzanola Christian Church and provided specialty music for the Rocky Ford Presbyterian Church. She served on the Rocky Ford Library Board and was a member of PEO, Delta Kappa Gamma and Westminster Guild Presbyterian Women’s Organization.

She lived with her husband, Jesse, on a farm west of Longmont with Norman, their burro and Bummy, their cat. During their 74 years together, they survived the death of a son, Jess David, the depression, the devastating 1955 Arkansas Valley flood and a multitude of changes from the Model T to the Internet.

Eleanor is survived by her husband Jesse of Longmont, son Dan and his wife, Carol of Arvada and daughters Diana Cinnamon of Longmont and Connie and husband, Mike Dollaghan of Hygiene; grandchildren David Osborn and wife, Alison; Becky Hopkins and husband, Ed; Lisa McAvoy and husband, Joe; Dana George and husband, Herb; Melissa Plescia and husband, George; Josh Dollaghan; Jessica Shockley; Pat Dollaghan and wife, Meradith; and great grand children Kayla, Cassie and Shannon Osborn; Tanner McAvoy; Ryan and Elle George; Tessa Plescia; Kate Shockley; and Ronan Dollaghan.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 3, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Howe Mortuary, Longmont. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 4, 2010 at the Hygiene United Methodist Church, Hygiene, CO with Pastor Amos Kariuki officiating. Burial will follow at the Lyons Cemetery, Lyons, CO.
