She was born in Niwot, Colorado, on January 4, 1942, to William D. and Alice M. Curry. She grew up in Longmont and graduated from Longmont High School in the class of 1959. She married Theodore Simmerman on July 1, 1964, in Longmont. She had no children.
She began her career as a secretary at Dow Chemical at Rocky Flats near Golden, Colorado, where she met her husband. She then moved up to work for the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission (now the Department of Energy), also at Rocky Flats. During that time, she held Confidential and Top Secret clearances with the U.S. Government. In 1972, she and her husband relocated to Arkansas and bought a small ranch. They raised horses, cows and goats. She loved animals and always had at least one dog, cat or both, as pets. In 1974, she moved to Texas. While in Texas, she began a B.A. degree in Business Administration but was not able to complete it. She took various other business courses and became proficient in shorthand dictation and typing. In 1982, she moved back to Colorado and worked for several different companies as an executive secretary and other administrative positions. She also graduated from Colorado School of Travel and worked in a travel agency for 3 years. During that time and in the following years, she traveled quite a bit, taking trips to Alaska, Hawaii, Europe, Mexico and Australia. She loved to travel and took several cruises. She then took computer courses and worked for several more companies using those skills. She retired in 2007.
After retirement, she had several hobbies that kept her busy. She was gifted in painting ceramics and made many beautiful décor items, including a large, 2-ft. tall, 14-piece nativity scene that our family still enjoys today. She loved working with miniatures. She and her mother made many different sized dollhouses to scale, such as: a Victorian house; a beach house with a cliff and shoreline; a log cabin; a farmhouse, barn and corrals; and a San Francisco high-rise with several businesses in it and a penthouse apartment on the top. She and her mother made most of the furniture and furnishings in each dollhouse. She was an avid reader having a very large collection of books. In the last three years of her life, she enjoyed adult coloring books and completed more than 50 of them. She was a very creative person enjoying flowers and crafts all of her life.
She was preceded in death by her father, Dee Curry; her mother, Alice Curry; an infant brother, Billy Curry; her sister, Nita Steiner; and brother-in-law, Glenn Steiner.
She is survived by a niece, Glenda Hubach (Tim); a nephew, Daryl Steiner (Tracy), 3 great-nephews and 1 great-niece, and 5 great, great nieces and nephews. Also survived by a cousin, Gary Curry (Carol).
