at the age of 90. She was a cherished wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend who
will be dearly missed.
Betty lived a full and wonderful life. Born May 11, 1931, in Palo Alto, California, she spent the entirety of her life in the Santa Clara Valley. She married Harvey L. Cobb on July 3, 1952, and together they raised two girls, Chris and Carol, in Saratoga. Committed to her career in education, Betty received a Master of Arts in Early Childhood Education from San Jose State University in the 1960s.
Betty loved her husband, daughters, and granddaughters. She was a passionate gardener, world traveler, and patron of the arts. She frequented the Saratoga Public Library to fuel her love of reading and literature. Betty was a long time member of the Southwest YMCA. Betty and Harvey were like salt and pepper. Their unique personalities complimented each other. Harvey loved to hunt; Betty was a dedicated supporter of the arts. When Harvey came home from hunting, Betty tried not to complain about the mess especially when she got poison oak from his clothing. When Betty purchased season tickets for the San Jose Symphony, Harvey always happily accompanied her and tried his best to stay awake.
Betty and Harvey often hosted parties to celebrate family milestones. Birthdays, Christmas,
Thanksgiving, Easter, a wedding reception, and showers, were held at their beautiful family
home in a garden curated by Betty’s love of gardening.
Dedicating 20 years as an elementary school teacher at Hollenbeck Elementary School in Sunnyvale, Betty was highly regarded by staff, parents and students. She inspired her students to be curious and life long learners. Her students especially loved when she played the piano and sang for them, sharing her passion for the arts with her students. Betty’s treasured husband, Harvey, predeceased her on August 9, 2020. Her loving daughters Christine Cobb-Strachan and Carol Cobb Ahrens survive her. She had three granddaughters of whom she was very proud: Jessica Marie Buchanan, Lisa Ann Strachan and Kate Elizabeth Strachan, all survive her. Betty will be laid to rest next to Harvey at Alta Mesa Cemetery, Palo Alto.
