

Ellen Barbara Peters, 82, of Ft. Collins died unexpectedly Sunday, April 26, 2015. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm Friday, May 1, 2015, in Harmony Presbyterian Church, 400 East Boardwalk, Ft. Collins.Barbara was born in Corsicana, Texas on August 13, 1932. Her childhood was spent in Corsicana and Caracus, Venezuela. She attended Richmond Professional Institute, college of William & Mary, where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1954. While there she met Gordon Peters, they fell in love and were married in June, 1954. They remained married for 52 years until his death in 2006.Later she went back to school at CSU in Ft. Collins, where she earned a Masters degree in Speech Pathology in 1965. After graduating from CSU, she began working for Poudre R1 school district as a speech pathologist. She retired from the school district in 1991 after 26 years of service. Barbara had a long full life. In addition to living in South America as a child, she and Gordon lived in Puerto Rico while he served in the Navy. They also lived in Galveston, Texas; Colorado Springs and Thornton, Colorado before settling in Fort Collins in 1962. After retirement Barb and Gordon spent their summers travelling all across the US in their motor home. In 2006 she traveled to China with her eldest daughter Michelle and husband Jon to assist in adopting twin girls and bringing them back to the states. Barbara's favorite activities included reading, talking with friends, and travelling. Barbara also loved ketchup. Barbara is preceded in death by her husband Gordon and their youngest son Todd Peters. Survivors include two daughters, Michelle (and Jon) Major of Vancouver, Washington, and Dawn Peters of Missouri; one son, Kevin (and Rita) Peters of Longmont, Colorado. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Riley, Rawlin, Kristopher, Allie, Kaela, and Lia. The family gratefully acknowledges all the skilled doctors, nurses, technicians, caregivers at Longmont United Hospital, the staff at Frontier Therapy Center of Longmont, and all the helpful staff at Beatrice Hover Assisted Living in Longmont.Any memorial contributions can be made to Harmony Presbyterian Church, 400 East Boardwalk, Ft.
