

Lou was born September 7, 1918 in Rainsville, New Mexico to the late Margerito and Ricardita (Lopez) Pacheco. She spent her childhood years in Rainsville with her family, and on April 22, 1939 she married Joseph Cardenas in Buena Vista, New Mexico. They would make a home in Rainsville, eventually moving to the Longmont area in 1942. She worked for the Mayeda Farms for many years. She later worked at the St. Vrain hospital in Longmont. She also worked at the Midwest Children’s Home in Mead and also for Father Gregory at St John‘s Catholic Church. In her free time, Lou enjoyed quilting, sewing and baking. She was also very involved in her community. She attended city council meetings, was a board member with Meals on Wheels and also the Longmont Senior Center. She also played an active role in getting RTD to come to Longmont. Lou had a very strong work ethic and was always wanting to help those in need.
Lou is survived by her daughters, Lydia (Mike) Gomez of Westminster, Rose Lontine of Pueblo West and Salli Bates (Michael) of Killeen, TX, and a son Joe Cardenas of Firestone. She is further survived by her grandchildren, Debbie Gomez, Michael Gomez, Jeff Gomez, Thomas (Tracy) Lontine, Julian Lontine, Wes (Jen) Cardenas, Victoria (Joe) Herr, Derrick Bates and Draya (Juan) Campos. She also has thirteen great grandchildren, Zachary, Zaden, Zoey Gomez, Shaleena, Shanae Lontine, Brooklynn, Savannah, Raleigh Cardenas, Jocelyn and Brennan Herr, Jerin, Aubrie and Elan Campos. She also has three brothers, Florencio Pacheco of Omaha, NE, Charlie Pacheco of Commerce City, CO, and Pat (Sharon) Pacheco of Thornton, CO, sisters, Mary (Leo) Arguello of Commerce City, CO, Linda Coto of Orlando, FL, Dorothy (Fred) Martinez of Broomfield, CO and Rose Britton of Thornton, CO.
Lou was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a daughter Susan Cardenas, brothers, Donisiano ""Ferman"" Pacheco and Dennis Pacheco, sister Elisa Martinez and a grandson, Bobby Lontine.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 followed by the recitation of the rosary at 7:00 pm, both at the Howe Mortuary. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Longmont. Burial will be held at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery. A reception will follow the service at the American Legion, Post #32, 315 S. Bowen Street, Longmont, CO
