

Jean was born on January 9, 1927 in Huntington, West Virginia to Jacob Boyd Honaker and Ellen Ruth Switzer Honaker. On March 9, 1947 she married serviceman John Douglas Johnson, Sr. in Huntington. The two shared a wonderful life following the Colonel’s Air Force career and stops along the way.
Jean was a life time learner and received both a Bachelor’s degree (Arizona State University) and a Master’s degree (University of Arizona) in Education. She taught elementary school for years in Aiea, Hawaii; Bellevue, Nebraska and Tempe, Arizona.
Jean was always active, in addition to being deeply involved in raising her children she was a faithful member of the Church of Christ; Daughters of the American Revolution; Retired Teachers Association; Past President of Tempe Women’s Club; and the Red Hat Society.
Preceding her in death is her husband John.
Surviving are her children John Douglas (Rita) Johnson, Jr of Omaha, Nebraska; daughter RuthAnn (Dennis) Ghiglia of Longmont; sister Shirley Ann Clay of San Diego, California; brothers Harold Honaker of Huntington, West Virginia and Tomas Honaker of Dolores, Colorado; grandchildren Douglas Earl (Tina LaFrance) Johnson; Leon Michael (Julia) Johnson; Heidi Marie (Kenny) Belew; Daniel Christopher (Amber) Ghiglia; Carla Jean Mathers; and Grant Mathers and 12 great grandchildren Connor Douglas, Hannah Rose, Sean Michael, Addison Ward, Ian David, Lance Eugene, Amelia Grace, Madison Mae, Analicia Lynn, Alexis Emma Jean, Dominic Christopher and Kylie Marie.
A visitation will be held at 4:30 p.m., Saturday, September 12 at the Howe Mortuary. Services will follow at 5:00 p.m. at the Howe Mortuary Chapel.
An interment will be held at National Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Phoenix, Arizona.
