
Ernest E. Wheeler, of Longmont, died February 12, 2011 at his home. He was 85 years old.Ernest was born on February 24, 1925 in Clyde, Ohio to Ernest E., Sr. and Melissa (Eggleston) Wheeler. He graduated from Atlantic Union College in South Lancaster, Massachusetts, an Adventist College where he studied to be a minister.He served in the U.S. Army from March 6, 1945 until his honorable discharge on October 17, 1946. He was stationed in Casablanca and Germany, and was present at the Nuremberg Trials.Ernest married Leona Trudee Raver on October 21, 1945 in Washington, D.C. Following college, Ernest entered the Seventh-day Adventist ministry, first serving in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Ernest then served in Adventist church administration in Colorado from 1961 until 1966, when he moved to Wisconsin. Ernest then entered overseas missions, serving in Pakistan, Thailand and the Sudan until his return to the Oregon conference, retiring in 1990. Ernest enjoyed riding his Rascal Mobility Scooter, a motorized vehicle for the handicapped, around Longmont. He enjoyed working in the yard and garden, and enjoyed animals, especially the family pets. He also enjoyed antiques, purchasing a 1947 Allis-Chalmers tractor and also owned a 1929 Chevy Coupe.He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona Trudee Wheeler on August 29, 2010; his parents; two brothers and three sisters.Ernest is survived by two daughters, Amy Clark (Ralph), and Donna Allen (Mike), both of Longmont; three grandsons, Aaron Testerman, Jeff Testerman (Melissa), both of California and Brian Matthews (Shannon) of Georgia and one great-grandson, Ethan Matthews.Funeral service 9:30 A.M. on Friday, February 18, 2011 at Longmont Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1712 Mountain View Ave. Interment at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
