During Esther’s early years, her father worked for the railroad, and the family later moved to Colorado. She attended Greeley High School. On May 18, 1952, she married the love of her life, William Russell Saxton, at Galeton Baptist Church. Together they built a life rooted in faith, family, and creativity.
Following the death of her husband, Esther moved from Boulder to Longmont in 2009. When she was able, she faithfully attended Grace Evangelical Free Church, where she especially enjoyed the ladies Sunday School class. Participating in Dorothy Erickson’s widow support group, the Ladybugs held a special place in her heart.
Later in life, Esther developed a love for travel and adventure. She cherished the opportunity to visit Ireland and Israel. And the final grand adventure to Vermont to visit her daughter, a memorable cross-country journey made in a U-Haul truck that perfectly reflected her quiet sense of adventure and determination.
Esther had a lifelong love of learning, beauty, and creativity. She loved flowers and the outdoors, especially enjoying day trips to the mountains and peaceful visits to Lily Lake just outside of Estes Park. Her many hobbies included sewing, knitting, crocheting, stained glass, china painting, and cake decorating. She took great joy in sharing her talents with her children and grandchildren, patiently teaching them baking, sewing, cake decorating, and photography. While she often claimed she didn’t like pets, the many photographs capturing her gentle affection for them told a different story.
Esther was preceded in death by her parents, Loyal and Edith Oliver; her beloved husband, William Saxton; her sisters Ruth(Jay) Lemons, and Judy (Stanley) Leslie.
She is survived by her sister, Marlyn Kreps of Longmont; her daughters, Marjie (Charlie) Adams of Longmont and Sheri Lee of Williston, Vermont; her grandchildren, Carrie Adams, Amy Adams, and Scott (Jebeke) Adams; and six great-grandchildren who brought her great joy.
Esther will be remembered for her abiding faith, quiet strength, generous spirit, deep love for her family, and the many skills and memories she lovingly passed on to future generations.
A viewing will be held on Friday, January 16th, 2026 at 9:00 AM at Grace Church in Longmont, followed by a memorial service at 10:00AM at the same location. The burial will be at Ryssby Cemetery at a later time.
