Floyd Adler was born on April 11, 1920 to Carl H. & Mary Adler. He was born the first of fourteen children in a small farmhouse north of Mead, CO. Floyd passed away on November 15, 2022 at his home in Longmont, CO after enjoying more than 102 years of life on the farm with his family.
He was baptized in Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Brighton, CO. He began school in Mead, CO and loved baseball and boxing as his sports & math/algebra as his favorite subject. Floyd completed eight years of school before his father and the farm required his full-time attention.
Floyd found the love of his life, a city girl from Longmont, CO, Marian D. Gwin while attending the Hayseed dance in Berthoud, CO to celebrate a successful harvest in the fall of 1940. After a whirlwind courtship, they were married on June 7, 1941 in Loveland, CO. The newlyweds moved to a small farm south of Longmont where they grew sugar beets, corn, alfalfa, and started a small dairy herd. They then moved to a farm south of Mead, CO where they continued to farm and milk cows as they expanded their Registered Holstein Dairy Herd and his family.
Surviving Floyd are his daughter Patricia (Randy) Snider, Mead, CO, sons Dennis (JoAnne) Adler, Greeley, CO, Randy (Undral) Adler, Silver City, NM, Doug (Rhonda) Adler, Longmont, CO, and his daughters-in-law Cynthia Adler, Longmont, CO and Nanette Adler, Wray Co. He is further survived by 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife Marian, his daughter Barbara Kuhn, and his sons James and Gary Adler. He was also preceded by his granddaughter Heather Robertson, and great-grandson Jacob Adler Balman.
Floyd loved farming and his cattle. For years, he enjoyed working with his sons as they harvested together as a family. Until his death, he was still going out daily and helping out on the farm that was being operated with his son Doug. Together the family enjoyed their own competitive softball team. One proud moment in his life was when their team won “The Pennant” in Longmont, CO.
Over the years, Floyd served on multiple boards and associations. He was a member of the Colorado Holstein Association for 15 years, serving as its president for 4 years. He served 24 years on the Longs Peak Water Board, 28 years on the Colorado Beet Growers Association, serving as its president for 10 years. He was with the Sirloin Club for 15 years. He attended Graham School as part of the Cattlemen’s Association in Garnett, KS, and was interviewed and appeared on TV several times throughout his life. The big smile that he always had on his face made no one a stranger and he would greet them like he had known them all his life.
One of his pride and joys was fully decorating his house with lights and decorations for the Christmas Season as he would take several days a year to prepare the house for the holidays, which was enjoyed by thousands of people in the Longmont area every year.
In Honor of Floyd Adler, funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at Howe Mortuary. Burial will follow at Foothills Gardens of Memory.
