Gabriel David Conde

November 2, 1995April 30, 2018

Our beloved Gabriel David Conde was born at home in Belton, Missouri, on November 2, 1995. Gabe gave his life for his fellow American and Afghan soldiers in the Tagab district, Kapisa province of Afghanistan on April 30, 2018. Gabe was twenty-two years old.

Missouri was Gabe’s home until the summer of 2009, when he moved with his family to Berthoud CO. Although he left behind precious friends in Missouri, he “came alive” in Colorado. He loved hiking, mountain biking, and hunting, and he quickly gained new friends through his involvement in band, wrestling, cross-country, and track.

During high school, he went on three mission trips with Grace Place church to Madera, a small town in Mexico, where Gabe found great joy and purpose in helping the people in tangible ways. He spoke of how he enjoyed helping people who could not repay him as a way of honoring God in his life.

Gabe excelled academically at Berthoud High School, and he attended the Colorado School of Mines as a freshman in 2014-2015. However, he was not satisfied with “wasting time in school” while he contemplated his dream of becoming a Green Beret.

He enlisted as an 18X (special forces) recruit and completed basic training at Fort Benning, GA in 2015. He went on to special forces training at Fort Bragg, NC in January 2016, but was dropped in selection. He then was stationed at JBER in Anchorage AK where he remained until his deployment to Afghanistan in September 2017.

In the short time he spent in Afghanistan, Gabe was fortunate to do some things he always wanted to do, in keeping with his warrior instinct to defend the weak and to “vanquish evil.” He also spoke warmly of befriending several Afghan Army soldiers and of the rugged beauty of the landscape beyond the war-torn contested lands.

Gabe is fiercely loved by many people. He leaves behind his parents, Bob and Donna Conde, and his younger sisters, Olivia and Priscilla Conde, all of Loveland CO. He is also survived by his grandmother, Carolyn Schaumburg, of Greenville TN, and his grandparents, Robert and Angie Conde, of Greeley CO. The many members of his extended family will also miss him deeply.

The family asks in lieu of flowers, you might consider a gift to the Gabriel David Conde Memorial Fund. Gabe’s Passion was to protect and provide for those who needed it. This fund will not only provide for his sister’s future, but also support organizations that are actively rescuing children enslaved as child soldiers and in the sex slave industry. Checks can be mailed or dropped off at Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman St., Longmont, CO 80501 or any First Bank.

Gabe will be arriving home from Dover Air Force Base on Friday, May 11th, at approximately 10:00am, at the Northern Colorado Regional Airport in Loveland. A procession back to Longmont, to honor Gabe's arrival home, will proceed down I-25 to HWY 56 through Berthoud and back to Longmont via 287 immediately after his arrival. Please come out to honor and welcome Gabe home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Life Bridge Christian Church in Longmont, CO. Burial will be on Monday afternoon, May 14, 2018 at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver, CO.

Our condolences and deepest sympathy to the remarkably grounded family of Spc Gabriel David Conde. We had the honor of attending Gabe's memorial service today in Longmont and will long remember your witness to his marvelous character and deep Christian faith. To have high school friends, military peers/leaders and neighbor Jim L speak of Gabe was so heartwarming. Donna, Bob, Priscilla, Olivia! Thank you. Through all the unimaginable anguish and sorrow, you brought to us the a most remarkable son's life.
During our drive back to Aurora, we talked of so much that was spoken of Gabe's genuine, rich character and love of family ... and we felt like we have known your son all along. Thank you for sharing his life with us. We pray that your amazing friends, wonderful memories of Gabriel and the Grace of God will bring comfort in the difficult days before you.

Peace be with You,

We would like to express our deepest sympathy for the loss of your son. Our son is also stationed at JBER in AK and is presently serving in Afghanistan. He was not in Gabe's Battalion and did not know your son, but yet the news of your loss is felt deeply. Know that there are other Army parents out here sharing in your sorrow. Even though we did not know your son, we know what kind of man he is and how very proud you are of him. May you feel our arms around you to comfort you in this difficult time.
