Longtime resident of Longmont, Gary Allan Jones, age 72, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2015 just after 9pm surrounded by loved ones at Longmont United Hospital. Gary was born June 28, 1943 in North Tonawanda, New York to Walter Leon Jones and Marion Alice Creasey. He moved to Snyder, NY then to Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio where he spent the majority of his teen years. He was the oldest of three brothers, Donald and Brian. He graduated with the class of 1961 from Cuyahoga Falls High School where he developed lifelong friendships and served on the yearbook committee. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree of Business Administration from Ohio University. One of the highlights of his life, before being married and starting a family, was a lengthy trip to Europe that he spoke of often. He served with the United States Army from 1966 to 1968 and was stationed in Korea before completing his service. Prior to retiring, Gary was a salesman with Century 21 Real Estate, Hajek dealership, and Bassett Carpets.
Gary was visiting some old high-school friends in Colorado, when he met Charlotte Stringari. They fell in love, and he made the permanent move to Colorado to marry Charlotte, his wife of 45 years. Together Charlotte and Gary had three children Sherri Rene, Lisa Michelle and Mark Allen. He was grandfather to Taylor Rocha and Eli, Reece and Emmy Criger. Gary was a strong man with a tender heart. He cared deeply for his family and provided well for them. His love for family was evidenced in his simple acts of service, be it car maintenance, filing taxes, painting walls, or financial support and generous giving. He had a love of the outdoors, especially Rocky Mountain National Park, where he and his family enjoyed countless picnics and walks around Sprague Lake. Always an animal lover, he had a special affinity for horses and also a green thumb in the garden. Gary showed himself a strong fighter during his battle with cancer, and although not a man of many words, he never shied away from a good laugh or a smile. He was a member of Whitefields Community Church in Longmont and desired to see the church in their own building. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Whitefields Community Church building fund can be mailed to P.O. Box 1484, Longmont, CO 80502 or made online to whitefieldschurch.com
.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Marion Jones and his brother Brian Jones.
Gary is survived by his beloved wife Charlotte, brother Don, children Sherri (Mario), Lisa (Tim), Mark, and grandchildren Taylor, Eli, Reece and Emmy.
A celebration of his life will be held Friday December 18, 2015 at Faith Community Church, 9775 Ute Highway 66 at 1:00PM.
