Gary Earl Schumacher

April 13, 1939 - March 17, 2024

Born in Geneva, Nebraska, to Arthur Sr. and Minnie Schumacher. Gary married Janice (Weldon) Schumacher on June 12, 1960. Together, they moved to Colorado in 1970, where Gary worked as a CO-OP employee and later worked for Northern Energy Propane (1985-2007) where he hauled propane to residents in the mountains and other Front Range houses up until retirement. One of our favorite memories is hearing about all the snow and wildlife he encountered, including his wild grandchildren that showed up on the propane dock to visit while he was working. After retirement Gary kept himself busy as a cross guard for St. Vrain Valley School District for a little extra gambling money, or so he thought. He was an avid bowler playing with his son and grandson, traveling to tournaments. He was also a hunter and fisherman, telling tall tales about his trophy catch, although there’s no proof that he caught anything.

Gary passed away peacefully on March 17, 2024, under the care of Longmont United Tru Community Care Hospice Center. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Janice Schumacher; daughter Therese Godfrey (Robb Godfrey) of Chappell, Nebraska, daughter Brenda Schumacher of Longmont, Colorado, and daughter-in-law Connie Rankin; grandchildren Angela Heverly (Chris Heverly), Justin Smith, Lane Godfrey (Amanda Godfrey and children Knox, Daxton, and Eden), Chase Schumacher, Brett Godfrey, Ty Vigil (Leah Hernandez and children Daisy and Jade) and, Zachary Vigil.

Gary was preceded in death by his son, Craig Schumacher; his parents, and sisters Helen Hall, Dorothy Everts, Wilma Struppa and his brother Arthur Schumacher Jr.

A Celebration of life for Gary will be held Saturday, March 30th 2024,10:00 am at Our Saviors Lutheran Church,1221 17th Ave, Longmont, CO 80501.
